China became the first U18 Asia Championship finalists. They defeated Japan in the first semifinal of the day in Ulaanbaatar. Dai Huaibo (205-C/F-94) delivered 23 points to lead the reigning champions.
China jumped to an early lead however Japan did not allow their opponents to clear off. Japan trailed by just one point after ten minutes 23:24. China managed to pull away late in the first half. They went on a 14:2 run to ensure a 16-point lead at halftime. China maintained the lead throughout the third term. They secured a 71:54 advantage at the final intermission. China kept Japan at distance throughout the fourth term and rallied to the victory at the end. Wang Zhelin (215-C/F-94) provided 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Li Jinglong (195-F-95) added 15 points for the winning side. Masahiro Narita (185-SF-94) answered with 17 points for Japan. Yuta Osaka (179-PG-94) had 14 points in the loss.

Japan - Taiwan 71:70 Japan withheld a furious challenge from Taiwan to celebrate a crucial victory in the final day of the preliminary action at the East Asian Championship. East Asian Championship: Japan coast past Macau - May 17, 2013

Japan - Macau 101:53 Japan claimed the first win at the East Asian Championship in South Korea. They fired past Macau for 1-1 record in Group A. Yuta Watanabe (200-SF-94) delivered 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the winners. Japan led from start to finish in this one. They dominated every facet of the game. South Korea - Japan 74:55 South Korea clinched the opening win at the East Asian Championship in Incheon. The hosts overcame powerful Japan in front of a supportive crowd at the Samsan World Gymnasium. Park Chan-Hee (190-G-87) posted 14 points, 6 rebound and 5 assists to lead the charge.
