There was a surprise result in Gifu where ninth rankedSwoops (4-3) beat 3rd placed Broncos (6-3) 80-73 on Saturday. Gifu outrebounded Saitama 45-33 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Blake Preston (206-2000, college: Northwestern) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and point guard Reo Yamazaki (179-1999) chipped in 9 points. The best for the losing side was American Devin Oliver (203-1992, college: Dayton) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Trent Buttrick (206-1998, college: UMass) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gifu moved-up to eighth place. Loser Broncos dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Tachikawa.
