Regular Season Round 13: Nagasaki - Osaka E. 100-96

B1 League top team - Velca (12-1) added another victory to their record on Wednesday. This time they beat ninth ranked Evessa (5-8) in Nagasaki 100-96. Nagasaki dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Evessa's 38. Nagasaki looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Panamanian-American center Akil Mitchell (206-1992, college: Virginia) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. South Korean swingman Hyunjung Lee (201-2000, college: Davidson) chipped in 27 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American forward Matt Bonds (196-1995, college: St.Michael's) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import Ryan Luther (206-1995, college: Arizona) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Five Nagasaki and four Osaka E. players scored in double figures. Evessa's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Velca have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. Nagasaki maintains first place with 12-1 record, which they share with Nagoya DD and Chiba Jets. Loser Evessa dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Nagasaki will meet at home league's second-placed Nagoya DD in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Osaka E. will play against Saga B. (#10) and hope to secure a win.
