There was no surprise in Kariya where 9th rankedAlphas (20-39) were defeated by second ranked SeaHorses (43-16) 83-75 on Saturday. Sea Horses M. made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Koshigaya A. only scored five points from the stripe. It was a great evening for American forward Jake Layman (206-1994, college: Maryland) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Davante Gardner (203-1991, college: Marquette) helped adding 18 points and 5 assists. point guard Shun Matsuyama (175-1996) responded with 27 points and Filipino-American center Kai Sotto (220-2002) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Koshigaya A. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SeaHorses have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Sea Horses M. maintains second place with 43-16 record having just two points less than leader Nagasaki. Loser Alphas keeps the ninth position with 39 games lost.
