Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Ballooners (9-13) lost to third ranked SeaHorses (16-6) in Kariya 67-78 on Wednesday. Sea Horses M. dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Ballooners's 26. Sea Horses M. outrebounded Saga B. 45-33 including 37 on the defensive glass. American forward Jake Layman (206-1994, college: Maryland) nailed 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import power forward Davante Gardner (203-1991, college: Marquette) accounted for 8 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. came up with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and American power forward Tanner Groves (208-1999, college: Oklahoma) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Saga B. in the defeat. Four Saga B. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for SeaHorses. Sea Horses M. maintains third place with 16-6 record having just two points less than leader Nagasaki. Loser Ballooners keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. Sea Horses M. will meet Akita NH (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Saga B. will play against Ryukyu (#4) and hope to secure a win.
