There was a minor upset when second-bestTochigi Brex (12-3) was smashed by fifth ranked Dragonflies (9-6) in Hiroshima 103-76 on Sunday. Hiroshima D. dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Tochigi Brex 's 24 and made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tochigi Brex 46-24 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hiroshima D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Christopher Smith (193-1994, college: Utah St.) who led the winners and scored 35 points (!!!). His fellow American import forward Dwayne Evans (201-1992, college: St.Louis, agency: Pensack Sports) accounted for 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. American guard DJ Newbill (193-1992, college: Penn State) came up with 24 points and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international swingman Makoto Hiejima (191-1990) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Tochigi Brex in the defeat. Four Tochigi Brex players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hiroshima D. moved-up to third place, which they share with 5 other teams. Defending champion Tochigi Brex keeps the second position with three games lost.
