FE Nagoya tabs Nelson Phillips, ex Gries-Souffel

Toyotsu Fighting Eagles Nagoya (B1 League) have signed 27-year-old American 196cm guard Nelson Phillips (college: Troy) for the upcoming season. Phillips most recently played at Gries-Souffel in French ProB, where he averaged 14.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.5apg, 2.2spg, and 1.2bpg in 19 games last season. In the previous (2024-25) season, he played for s Oliver Baskets (BBL) in the German league, competing in three different competitions. Phillips played 25 games in the German BBL, averaging 6.4ppg, 4.0rpg, and 1.2apg, helping the team reach the semifinals. He also played 5 games in the Basketball Champions League, where he posted 9.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.4apg, and 2.4spg.
Phillips is a very experienced player, having played professionally in Germany, Serbia (Vrsac and BC Mega Superbet Beograd), and The Basketball Tournament (Fail Harder).
Among many awards, he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Serbian League Import Player of the Year in 2024.
Phillips graduated from Troy University in 2023 and it will be his fourth season in pro basketball. He played for Georgia State University for 4 years as well.
