Regular Season Round 17: Sendai 89ers - Hiroshima D. 49-88

There was a minor upset in Sendai where their close opponent 89ers (8-9) were crushed by sixth ranked Dragonflies (10-7) 88-49 on Saturday. Hiroshima D. outrebounded Sendai 89ers 49-30 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hiroshima D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Sendai 89ers' players. Jamaican center Kofi Cockburn (213-1999, college: Illinois) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American forward Dwayne Evans (201-1992, college: St.Louis, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Four Dragonflies players scored in double figures. American guard Jarrett Culver (198-1999, college: Texas Tech) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Lebanese guard Sergio El Darwich (194-1996, college: Maine) scored 5 points and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hiroshima D. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Alvark Tokyo and Shimane SM. Loser 89ers keep the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Shiga L-Stars. Hiroshima D. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sendai 89ers will play against Hiroshima D. (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
