Regular Season Round 5: San-en NP - Chiba 98-79

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Chiba (3-2) against seventh ranked NeoPhoenix (3-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting Chiba was crushed by NeoPhoenix in Hamamatsu 98-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Chiba. San-en NP forced 21 Chiba turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Chiba was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Nigerian swingman David Nwaba (195-1993, college: Cal Poly) stepped up and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and American forward Yante Maten (201-1996, college: Georgia) chipped in 23 points. Nwaba is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Trey Porter (210-1996, college: Nevada, agency: JCK Sports Group) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import center Dererk Pardon (203-1996, college: Northwestern) scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San-en NP moved-up to third place, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Chiba. San-en NP will play against Sendai 89ers (#6) on the road in the next round. Chiba will play against Toyama G. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
