There was no surprise in Hamamatsu where 13th ranked Grouses (14-42) were defeated by fifth ranked NeoPhoenix (34-22) 94-86 on Wednesday. San-en NP shot 30 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Toyama G. only scored eleven points from the stripe. San-en NP looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San-en NP made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Nigerian swingman David Nwaba (195-1993, college: Cal Poly) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Yante Maten (201-1996, college: Georgia) who added 19 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Nwaba is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four NeoPhoenix players scored in double figures. Australian forward Brock Motum (208-1990, college: WSU, agency: Slash Sports) responded with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and Syrian-American guard Trey Kell III (193-1996, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) scored 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. San-en NP maintains fifth position with 34-22 record, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Newly promoted Toyama G. dropped to the twelfth place with 42 games lost. They share the position with Kawasaki. San-en NP will meet higher ranked Sea Horses M. (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toyama G. will play against Akita NH (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
