We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked89ers (7-8) were smashed by seventh ranked SeaHorses (9-6) in Kariya 101-72 on Sunday. Sea Horses M. dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to 89ers ' 30. Sea Horses M. had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Davante Gardner (203-1991, college: Marquette) who led the winners and scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international swingman Ryogo Sumino (192-1996, college: SNHU) accounted for 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four SeaHorses players scored in double figures. American guard Jarrett Culver (198-1999, college: Texas Tech) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the other American import Nathan Boothe (208-1994, college: Toledo) added 19 points respectively for Sendai 89ers in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sea Horses M. moved-up to third place, which they share with 5 other teams. Sendai 89ers lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with San-en NP.
