Su Wei (212-C-89), Wang Zheng (216-C-90), Sun Zhe (220-C-90), Zhang Dayu (210-C-91) and Li Muhao (216-C-92) are five huge, talented young centers who should provide China with talent in the middle for years to come.
Su is currently the most advanced of the five, and provided Guangdong with valuable minutes in the CBA finals. But Wang is taller, quicker, and likely a year younger. Wang has a bigger upside than Su.
Sun just came back from to China from the United States, where he spent this season developing his body strength. He is now 221 cm tall and weighs 240 pounds. He likely will be added to the Dongguan roster next season, having worked on body development this year.
Zhang is the most accomplished of the five centers at the moment. He started for Zhejiang for most of the season and recently made an impression in helping the World Team to victory over Team USA in the Nike Global Hoop Summit, scoring 6 points on 3 of 6 shooting.
Li is currently the most hyped of the five. He is the youngest, listed as being born in 1992. He recently played on China's team at the Australian Olympic Youth Festival and was named to China's new version of the Olympic Hope Team. He is still growing at 216 cm, having sprouted from 208 cm in the past two years. He is projected to reach 220 cm. He has not yet been given the heavy weight training that Sun just received, likely because he is still growing. Sun and Li both have a body type similar to Yao Ming.
Like Sun, Li belongs to Dongguan. So four of these five talented young centers are playing in the province of Guangdong. Likely Guangdong and Dongguan will each have to choose between their two young centers, shipping one out for an opportunity to be a starting center elsewhere.
We do not know which of these five players will have the most successful career. But all five could eventually play in the NBA one day, though most likely not all of them will.

This brings immediate credibility to a team that is participating in its 1st year, in hopes of moving up to the CBA sometime in the near future. Smith brings a tough nosed style of play coupled with an NBA level skill set. Media reports are citing Smith is blending well with his new team, and has looked extremely sharp in the few practices they have had. The NBL season begins in less then 2 weeks, with high profile names such as Hilton Armstrong joining the league, this should be an interesting NBL season.
