Muhammad Yussuf canned a long bomb in the last 20 seconds of the extra period and lifted Jaish to a pulsating 75-73 victory over a stubborn Al Ahli squad last night in the Qatar Men's League at the Al Gharafa Indoor Arena. Back-up pointguard Narwan Salah took over from the ailing Fadi Abilmona and ran the plays for Jaish with flying colors. Army took the first half but Al Ahli kept them within striking distance at 31-27. Al Ahli came out strong in the third quarter and grabbed the lead momentarily at 37-36 with 6 minutes remaining in the period. Salah piloted Jaish' counter offensive thereon starting of with a 10-4 run to peg a 46-41 advantage before yielding to Ahli's 4 straight points to close the quarter still ahead at 46-45. Michael Cook would however lead Al Ahli to a 15-9 assault to rally his team to 59-55 upperhand with 2 minutes remaining in the game. Both teams fought it out in the dying seconds of the regulation and got locked-up at 63-all to send the game into overtime. Meanwhile, Al Arabi had an easy time against Al Shamal winning handily, 80-54, in the first game to pick-up their ninth win in twelve outings and tie Al Saad in the team standings. Abdulai Jalloh scored 24 points, hauled down 8 rebounds and swiped the ball 7 times to cap another sterling performance for Al Arabi. Games resume tomorrow as Al Arabi go up against Qatar Sports Club in the opener at 4pm while Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa slug it out in the main game at 8pm following the QML sidelight match between forerunning teams in the Pinoy Basketaball Qatar League. Gigantes de Guayana (LPB) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old American guard Calvin Cage (183-83kg-84, college: Buffalo, agency: Prossin Sports Management Inc.). In 6 games he averaged 9.2ppg, 1.7rpg and 4.0apg. The previous (2011) summer he played at Bucaros (DPB) in Colombian league. He contributed to his team winning the league title. The last (2011) season Cage played at Hoops Club (Division A) in Lebanese league. In 26 games he was fourth best scorer with impressive 22.8ppg and had 3.2rpg, 2.7apg and 1.2spg. Great season indeed as he was voted to PMA Basketball Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Honorable Mention. He is a very experienced player. Cage has played also professionally in Cyprus, Iraq (Duhok), Iran (BEEM), Mexico (Halcones Rojos), Philippines (Global Port), Saudi Arabia (Uhud) and Lebanon (Feytroun). He attended University of Buffalo until 2006 and it will be his seventh season in pro basketball. The scouts decsribe him following way:

Al Sadd triumphs at Arabian Gulf Basketball Clubs Championship 2013. The team from Qatar lost only one game at the campaign and sealed the title.
The team from Qatar started the tournament with the win against Kazma from Kuwait 73:55. In Day 2 Uhud from Saudi Arabia overcame Al Sadd 92:89. The latter finished the group with 2-1 record on the first place after a 89:73 win over ahli sadab from Oman.

In 7 games he averaged 4.0ppg, 1.0rpg and 1.6apg. In 2007 Johnson was drafted by Jackson Wildcats (USBL) as #4 pick overall. He attended Jackson State and it is his sixth season in pro basketball. The list of the past achievements is quite long as Johnson won NBA Pacific Division championship title in 2011. He was also voted Gatorade All-D-League 1st Team in 2011. Johnson represented Qatar at the FIBA Asia Cup in Tokyo (Japan) last year. His team won Bronze and his stats at that event were 4 games: Score-3 (17.3ppg), 5.3rpg, Assists-3 (4.3apg), FGP: 50.0%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 77.3%. Johnson is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in France, Serbia (Vrsac), NBA (Cleveland Cavaliers, LA Lakers and Toronto Raptors) and MBEL (Jackson Jam). The scouts decsribe him following way:
A powerful SG, with great scoring skills. He can score almost from everywhere on the court, but has a great touch around the basket, where he can easily go thanks to great athletic skills. Knows well the game, can pass and defend. Not a star player, but a great gym worker and a player who adapts well to every team in which he goes.
