Qatar’s reserve men’s basketball team continues its spirited participation in the 26th Arab Men’s Basketball Championship, currently held in Manama, Bahrain. The team is competing with enthusiasm as part of the Qatar Basketball Federation’s strategy to nurture young talent and provide them with valuable regional and continental experience.

The Qatari reserve team will enjoy a two-day break from the tournament on July 27 and 28, as per the official schedule. This follows intense matches against Bahrain and Egypt in the first and second rounds, respectively. The championship, hosted at Khalifa Sports City Arena, runs until August 2 and features seven Arab national teams: Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, the UAE, and Kuwait.

On Saturday, July 26, Qatar’s reserve team faced Egypt in their second match, with Egypt securing a 90-69 victory. Despite the loss, Qatar displayed a balanced performance, particularly in the third and fourth quarters. Egypt dominated early, leading 31-18 in the first quarter and 26-13 in the second. Qatar showed resilience in the third quarter, tying 12-12, and outperformed Egypt 26-21 in the final quarter. However, the accumulated point deficit favored Egypt.

In their opening match, Qatar fell to Bahrain 72-61, leaving them with two points from two games. Egypt, absent from the first round, earned their first two points with this win.

Qatar’s standout player, Abdullah Yassin Moussa, led the game with 19 points, while Egypt’s Mazen Mohamed was his team’s top scorer with 12 points.

Following the break, Qatar resumes competition on Tuesday, July 29, against Algeria at 4:00 PM, followed by a match against the UAE on Wednesday, July 30, at the same time. They will face Kuwait on Friday, August 1, at 6:00 PM, before concluding their campaign against Tunisia on Saturday, August 2, at 4:00 PM.

The Qatari reserve team features a promising lineup, including Abdullah Yassin, Owen Ekena Amah, Raslan Rashid Al-Abdullah, Mubarak Rashid Jama, Mohammed Saeed Badri, Osama Abdelnasser, Tamim Abu Issa, Azzam Mohammed, Mohammed Ahmed, Mahmoud Deeb, Issa Alert, Hamza Al-Attar, and Diyan Janich. This squad forms the foundation of Qatar’s long-term basketball development strategy, overseen by the Qatar Basketball Federation.
