QBL Round 5 (Regular Season): Al Arabi keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al Arabi as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al Arabi defeated 7th ranked Al Gharafa in Doha 95-84. Al Arabi outrebounded Al Gharafa 36-24 including 30 on the defensive glass. American guard Sindou Diallo (194-2000, college: Montana Tech) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. contributed with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Al Arabi's coach Hatem Mamlouk used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Rashad Williams (188-2000, college: UAPB) answered with 30 points and 4 assists for Al Gharafa. Al Arabi have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Al Rayyan. Al Gharafa at the other side keeps the seventh place with three games lost.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Shamal (#5) and Al Sadd (#3). Al Sadd was defeated at home 72-82 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Sadd. American guard Shane Rector (188-1994, college: Utah St.) stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and Tyree Crump chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Steven Green (196-1993, college: OKBU) responded with 22 points and 4 assists. Al Sadd's coach Vassilis Bratsiakos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Al Shamal (3-2) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Al Sadd.

They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Al Arabi. Loser Al Khor still closes the standings with four games lost.

In the last game of round 5 Al Ahli smashed Qatar Club on the road 114-83.



Al Khor - Al Rayyan 81-94

Bottom-ranked Al Khor is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to leader Al Rayyan (4-0) 94-81 on Wednesday evening. Al Rayyan dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Al Khor's 38. Abdulla Mousa nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and international center Tyler Harris (208-1993, college: Auburn) accounted for 22 points and 7 rebounds. Harris is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Al Rayyan's coach Stathis Nerantzakis used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Jesse Jones (183, college: Bridgeport) came up with 37 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow the other American import import guard Tyree Crump (185-1997, college: Georgia, agency: BIG) added 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Al Khor in the defeat. Al Rayyan have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Al Arabi. Loser Al Khor still closes the standings with four games lost.

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Al Ahli (2-3) crushed bottom-ranked Qatar Club (0-5) in Doha 114-83 on Thursday. Al Ahli looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American guard Nigel Johnson (187-1995, college: Virginia) nailed a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Antwaine Wiggins (203-1988, college: Charleston) accounted for 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Worth to mention Johnson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five Al Ahli D. players scored in double figures. American-Jamaican guard Josh Nicholas (190-1998, college: ULM, agency: Allstars Agency) came up with 34 points (!!!) and 7 assists and international center Tyler Harris (208-1993, college: Auburn) added 26 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Qatar Club in the defeat. Al Ahli moved-up to sixth place. Loser Qatar Club still closes the standings with five games lost.
