The Qatar reserve basketball team is gearing up for the draw of the 26th Arab Men’s Basketball Championship, set to take place on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Arab Basketball Federation headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. The tournament, hosted by Bahrain from July 25 to August 2, 2025, will feature eight national teams: Qatar, hosts Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, and Palestine.

The Qatar reserve team recently concluded its participation in the 44th William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan, with a 73-52 loss to Malaysia (quarter scores: 16-20, 15-19, 12-16, 9-18), finishing the tournament with 8 points. The event saw strong competition from teams including Japan, Australia, Bahrain, the UAE, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei A and B, and the Philippines’ Strong Group, providing Qatar’s reserve squad with valuable international exposure and an opportunity to assess player readiness.
The Qatar delegation at the William Jones Cup was led by Meshal Abdullah Al Malki, a member of the Qatar Basketball Federation’s board. The team’s roster included 13 players: Abdullah Yassin, Owen Ekena Amah, Raslan Rashid Al Abdullah, Mubarak Rashid Jama, Mohammed Saeed Badri, Osama Abdulnasser, Tameem Abu Issa, Azzam Mohammed, Mohammed Ahmed, Mahmoud Deeb, Issa Alirt, Hamza Al Attar, and Diyan Janic.

This participation serves as a key preparatory phase for the upcoming Arab Championship in Manama, Bahrain, which is anticipated to be one of the most competitive editions due to the closely matched skill levels and rich competitive history of the participating teams.
Bahrain secured the hosting rights for the 26th Arab Championship after the Tunisian Basketball Federation withdrew, marking the first time Bahrain will host this prestigious tournament since its inception in 1974.
