The event will feature four Asian national teams—Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Iraq—and will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Lusail Multipurpose Arena, one of Qatar’s premier sports facilities.

The tournament serves as the final phase of the Qatar national basketball team’s preparatory program ahead of their participation in the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025, with 16 teams from across the continent competing.
The QBF announced that all participating delegations have arrived in Doha, welcomed with meticulous organization that reflects Qatar’s commitment to providing an optimal environment for regional and international sporting events.

The tournament will commence on Monday, July 28, 2025, with a match between Qatar and Saudi Arabia at 1:00 PM. Competition resumes on Wednesday, July 30, with Qatar facing Japan at 5:00 PM, followed by Iraq versus Saudi Arabia at 7:00 PM. The tournament will conclude on Friday, August 1, with Saudi Arabia taking on Japan at 5:00 PM, followed by the final match between Qatar and Iraq at 7:00 PM.
The event is expected to draw significant crowds, particularly at the iconic Lusail Arena, with free admission offered to basketball fans in Qatar.
This initiative aims to create an engaging and vibrant atmosphere, fostering enthusiasm ahead of the continental challenge in Jeddah.
Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, emphasized that hosting the tournament aligns with the QBF’s commitment to providing high-quality competitive opportunities for the national team. “This international friendly tournament is crucial for preparing our team optimally while also strengthening sporting ties with fellow federations, in line with our vision to advance the game both technically and organizationally,” he stated.

Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary-General of the QBF and Director of National Teams, added, “We are fully prepared to host the 2025 International Friendly Tournament, with all organizational, technical, and logistical arrangements finalized in coordination with relevant authorities. This event underscores Qatar’s reputation as a global sports destination.”

The Qatar national team is led by Turkish coach Hakan Demir. In the FIBA Asia Cup draw, Qatar was placed in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. Their campaign begins against Lebanon on August 6 at 9:00 PM, followed by South Korea on August 8 at 11:00 PM, and concludes with Australia on August 10 at 11:00 PM.

Under the FIBA Asia Cup format, the top team from each group advances directly to the quarterfinals, while the second- and third-placed teams compete in crossover playoff matches to determine the remaining qualifiers.
