Doha – April 2, 2026:

The Qatar men’s and women’s national basketball teams (3x3) will begin their journey in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, hosted in Singapore from April 1 to 5, 2026, with two crucial matches in Group D, aiming for a strong start to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout stages.

Qatar opens its participation on April 3, 2026, against India, in a match where the players will look to assert their superiority and secure their first victory, especially as India enters the competition after progressing through the qualifying rounds, giving them added motivation to continue their positive momentum.

Later the same day, Qatar faces New Zealand, one of the continent’s strongest 3x3 teams, in a demanding test requiring high concentration and tactical discipline, given the opponent’s extensive experience in this format of the game.

These two encounters carry double importance—not only in shaping the group standings but also as a real test of Qatar’s ability to adapt to the fast-paced, physical style that characterizes 3x3 basketball, where matches are played at high intensity and demand special mental and physical readiness.

The Qatari delegation in Singapore is headed by Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams, alongside Captain Yassin Ismail, Director of the 3x3 National Teams. The technical staff is led by coach Marco, with the men’s squad featuring Mohammed Hashem Zidan, Mubarak Jama, Dejan Janic, and Nedim Muslic.

The tournament features participation from 22 Asian teams, including Mongolia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Tonga, Thailand, Turkmenistan, South Korea, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Macau, the Maldives, and Qatar.

Qatar’s participation reflects the team’s commitment to gaining valuable experience and strong competition in a championship that brings together Asia’s elite, raising the level of challenge and offering players the opportunity to prove their capabilities on the continental stage.
