Qatar Basketball Federation to Host 2025 International Friendly Tournament- July 24, 2025

Doha, July 23, 2025 – The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) is proud to announce the hosting of the 2025 International Friendly Basketball Tournament, scheduled from July 28 to August 1, 2025, at the world-class Lusail Multipurpose Hall. The event will feature four leading Asian national teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Iraq, as part of their preparations for upcoming continental competitions, notably the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025, with 16 participating teams. This tournament represents the final stage of the Qatar national team’s rigorous preparation program, following intensive training camps in Turkey, Doha, and South Korea. It is designed to evaluate the players’ technical and physical readiness in a highly competitive setting against diverse Asian basketball styles. The tournament schedule is as follows: • Monday, July 28, 2025: Qatar vs. Saudi Arabia at 1:00 PM • Wednesday, July 30, 2025: Qatar vs. Japan at 5:00 PM, followed by Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia at 7:00 PM • Friday, August 1, 2025: Saudi Arabia vs. Japan at 5:00 PM, followed by Qatar vs. Iraq at 7:00 PM Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al Mughaiseeb, President of the QBF, stated: “Hosting this international friendly tournament reflects our ongoing commitment to providing the national team with an optimal preparation environment through high-caliber matches. This event will enhance our team’s readiness for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 in Jeddah, while fostering stronger sporting ties with fellow federations and offering fans an exceptional experience at Lusail Hall, one of Qatar’s premier sports venues.” Led by Turkish coach Hakan Demir, the Qatar national team roster includes Omar Mohammed Saad, Abdulrahman Saad, Ahmed Saeed Mohammed, Zain Eldin Al Badri, Hajji Bobo Magassa, Babacar Dieng, Mohammed Al Sayed, Saidu Al Hajj Ndaye, Hamad Yassin, Mustafa Ndao, Ghassan Hajjar, Mahmoud Darwish, Tyler James Lee, Brandon Goodwin, Alen Hadzibegovic, and Mohammed Brashar. In the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 draw, Qatar is placed in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. The team will commence its campaign against Lebanon on August 6 at 9:00 PM, followed by South Korea on August 8 at 11:00 AM, and Australia on August 10 at 11:00 AM. The FIBA Asia Cup follows a group-stage format, with the top team from each group advancing directly to the quarterfinals, while second- and third-placed teams compete in crossover play-off matches. |
