Doha, August 10, 2025

The Qatar U16 national basketball team is gearing up for a pivotal match against Kuwait on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex. This clash marks the second round of the 22nd Arab Championship for U16 National Teams, currently hosted in Cairo, Egypt, from August 10 to 17, 2025. The tournament features six competing teams: Qatar, Bahrain, Tunisia, Kuwait, Algeria, and the host nation, Egypt. The teams are playing in a single-round-robin format, with the top two advancing to the final and the third- and fourth-placed teams competing for the bronze medal.

In their opening match against Bahrain, Qatar displayed a mixed performance. The team started strongly, dominating the first half with a disciplined defense and effective offense. Qatar led 18-15 in the first quarter, showcasing sharp focus and diverse scoring options, including close-range shots and mid-range jumpers. They maintained their momentum in the second quarter, edging out Bahrain 19-17 to lead 37-32 at halftime, thanks to smart passing and controlled tempo.

However, Qatar’s performance dipped significantly in the second half. Bahrain capitalized on their momentum, outscoring Qatar 30-8 in the third quarter and 28-13 in the fourth, securing a decisive 90-58 victory. Bahrain’s relentless defensive pressure and offensive efficiency proved too much for Qatar, who earned one point in the standings, while Bahrain claimed two.

Looking ahead, Qatar is set to face host nation Egypt on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 7:00 PM. Following a rest day for all teams on Wednesday, Qatar will take on Algeria on Thursday, August 14, at 5:00 PM, before concluding their preliminary round against Tunisia on Friday, August 15, at 5:00 PM. Another rest day follows on Saturday, with the final round—featuring the third-place playoff and the championship game—scheduled for Sunday, August 17, 2025.

The Qatari delegation is led by Mr. Abdullah Sultan Al-Jaber, a member of the Qatar Basketball Federation’s Board of Directors, accompanied by Mr. Khaled Al-Mughni, Director of Youth National Teams.

Notably, the Arab U16 Championship was first launched in Saudi Arabia in 1979, marking a long-standing tradition of fostering young basketball talent across the region
