South Korean Basketball Federation Visits Doha to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation and Explore 2027 World Cup Facilities- August 5, 2025

A high-level delegation from the South Korean Basketball Federation, led by its President and prominent businessman Mr. Kwon Hyuk-woon, arrived in Doha for a three-day official visit at the invitation of the Qatar Basketball Federation. The delegation, which includes General Secretary Mr. Jung Jae-yong and other senior officials, aims to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation and exchange expertise as Qatar prepares to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. As part of the preparations for the global event, the South Korean delegation toured several state-of-the-art sports facilities designated to host the 2027 World Cup. Key venues included the advanced Ali Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena, built to international standards, and the expansive Lusail Multipurpose Hall, one of the largest and most modern arenas in the region. The delegation expressed admiration for Qatar’s cutting-edge infrastructure and organizational capabilities. The visit also includes tours of prominent sports and cultural landmarks, such as the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, a leading cultural institution showcasing the history of the Olympic movement and Qatar’s regional sporting achievements. In a statement, Mr. Kwon Hyuk-woon expressed his delight at the visit, praising Qatar’s advanced infrastructure and its commitment to hosting world-class events. He emphasized the South Korean Federation’s eagerness to build a long-term partnership with its Qatari counterpart, highlighting Qatar’s growing prominence in global sports. The delegation is scheduled to visit the Qatar Basketball Federation’s headquarters to discuss strengthening ties between the two federations. This follows a recent training camp held by the Qatar national team in Seoul ahead of their participation in the 31st FIBA Asia Cup 2025, currently underway in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. |
