Qatar’s 3x3 Basketball Teams Depart for Hungary to Compete in Fourth Stop of U21 Nations League- August 24, 2025

Doha, August 24, 2025 – Qatar’s national 3x3 basketball teams, comprising both men’s and women’s squads, have departed for Debrecen, Hungary, to participate in the fourth stop of the U21 Nations League “Europe,” scheduled from August 26 to 28, 2025. The tournament will feature some of Europe’s top youth teams, promising intense competition.
Led by Captain Yassin Ismail, Director of National 3x3 Basketball Teams, the men’s team includes Mohammed Hashem, Sultan Abu Issa, Bassam Hajar, and Essa Al-Attar. The women’s team consists of Sara Al-Muadeed, Deema Al-Jassim, Dana Suleiman, and Fatima Jamal Abdullah, under the guidance of Coach Marco, who oversees both teams. The tournament will see six teams compete: France, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, and Qatar. With closely matched skill levels, the event is expected to be highly competitive as teams vie to boost their rankings. The men’s team will kick off their campaign on August 26, facing Romania and the Czech Republic in Group B matches. Having competed in three prior stops, the men’s team secured sixth place in the first, fifth in the second, and a remarkable second place in the third, earning 175 points. They currently hold second place in the overall standings with 648.881 points, trailing France (1,002.620 points), followed by the Czech Republic (536.950), Ukraine (510.606), Hungary (427.345), and Romania (408.897). The women’s team will begin their tournament on August 26 against Ukraine, followed by a match against France. Having earned 45 points across three previous stops, they enter the fourth stop with 95.794 points, ranking sixth. The Czech Republic leads the women’s standings with 343.467 points, followed by Ukraine (332.157), France (316.872), Hungary (202.482), and Romania (159.865). Captain Yassin Ismail emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “Our participation in Debrecen aligns with a clear strategy to build a strong foundation of young players who represent the future of Qatari basketball. Competing in Europe is challenging, but we trust in our players’ abilities and aim to develop them through exposure to advanced playing styles.” Ismail highlighted the men’s team’s progress, noting their steady improvement from lower rankings to second place in the last stop, which he views as a positive indicator of growth. He also praised the women’s team for their courage and determination despite their relatively new experience, adding that each competition builds valuable expertise that will soon yield results. “Our goal in this tournament goes beyond earning points,” Ismail concluded. “We are focused on shaping the international character of our young teams. With the strong support of the federation, we are confident this talented group will proudly represent Qatar in the near future.” |
