Al Gharafa Crowned Qatar U-14 Basketball Cup Champions… Al Sadd Finish as Runners-Up

Al Gharafa claimed the title of the Qatar U-14 Basketball Cup after defeating Al Sadd 52–47 in the final held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Qatar Basketball Federation Hall. The match was played in a spirited atmosphere and showcased a high technical level, reflecting the remarkable progress of youth categories in the sport.

The final witnessed intense competition from the outset, with both teams exchanging control and fast-paced attacks. The game remained closely contested and thrilling until the closing moments, before Al Gharafa sealed the victory and deservedly lifted the trophy.

Al Gharafa started strongly, winning the first quarter 20–18 thanks to quick offensive transitions and solid defensive focus. Al Sadd responded with organized teamwork to narrow the gap. In the second quarter, Al Gharafa maintained its edge, taking it 10–8 to lead by four points at halftime. The third quarter ended evenly at 9–9, as both sides traded baskets in a fierce battle for control. The decisive fourth quarter was marked by speed, excitement, and determination, but Al Gharafa held firm against Al Sadd’s relentless attempts to overturn the score, closing the quarter 13–12 and securing a five-point overall victory at 52–47.

Following the match, Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams, presented Al Gharafa with the championship trophy and gold medals, while Al Sadd received silver medals for finishing second.

On this occasion, Mr. Al-Kuwari praised the high technical level of the final, stating: “The championship final reflected the great development of Qatari basketball at the youth level. We witnessed a strong, passionate game between two teams that delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Congratulations to Al Gharafa on winning the title, and we commend Al Sadd for their excellent showing. Such competitions form a vital foundation for discovering talent and building the future of Qatari basketball.”

He added: “The Qatar Basketball Federation attaches great importance to youth tournaments, as they play a crucial role in preparing players, refining their skills, and equipping them to represent the national teams in the future.
