Qatar National Team Concludes Participation in FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup

Doha – April 5, 2026:

The Qatar 3x3 basketball national team concluded its participation on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup after a narrow 17–20 defeat to China in the quarterfinals of the tournament, hosted in Singapore from April 1 to 5, 2026. The team bid farewell to the competition following a spirited campaign marked by competitive performances and ambitions to advance further in one of the strongest editions of the championship.

The clash against China was intense and evenly matched for most of the game, before the Chinese side sealed victory in the final minutes with a three-point margin, securing their place in the semifinals while Qatar’s journey ended at the quarterfinal stage.

Qatar had advanced to the knockout rounds after finishing second in Group D. The team opened its campaign with an important 16–11 win over India, showcasing disciplined defense and organized offense, before falling to New Zealand 11–21 in a tougher contest.

Meanwhile, China reached the quarterfinals from Group B. They lost their opening game to Malaysia 19–21, but bounced back with a 21–15 victory over Australia to secure their spot in the knockout stage.

The Singapore-hosted tournament featured 22 national teams: Mongolia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Tonga, Thailand, Turkmenistan, South Korea, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Macau, Maldives, and Qatar.

The Qatari delegation in Singapore was headed by Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams, alongside Captain Yaseen Ismail, Director of 3x3 National Teams. The technical staff was led by Coach Marco, with the squad comprising Mohammed Hashem Zidan, Mubarak Jama, Dejan Janic, and Nedim Muslic.
