Doha – April 15, 2026
The Qatar Basketball Federation has announced the new design for the HH the Emir Basketball Cup for the 2025–2026 sports season, during a press conference held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Federation’s conference hall. The event was attended by Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation, along with strong representation from broadcast, print, and digital media outlets. This announcement comes as part of the Federation’s ongoing efforts to enhance its local competitions in both form and substance, aiming to increase the appeal of the tournaments and raise the level of competition among clubs, amid growing interest in basketball at the national level. During the conference, Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari emphasized that the new edition of the tournament will mark a qualitative leap in financial incentives. The champion will receive a prize of QAR 1.5 million, while the runner-up will be awarded QAR 900,000. These substantial prizes reflect the Federation’s commitment to motivating clubs to deliver their best performances and to strengthen the value of the tournament as one of the most prominent local competitions, especially given the close technical levels among the teams. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026, with a qualifying round match between Qatar Club and Al-Khor Club at 6:05 p.m. at the Federation Hall. Both teams will be vying for a spot in the quarterfinals and a strong start to their campaign. The competition continues on Saturday, April 18, 2026, with two anticipated clashes at Al-Gharafa Hall: Al-Ahli vs. Al-Wakrah at 6:05 p.m., followed by Al-Sadd vs. Al-Shamal at 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, April 19, 2026, Al-Gharafa faces Al-Rayyan at 6:05 p.m., while Al-Arabi meets the winner of the Qatar vs. Al-Khor match at 8:00 p.m. The excitement reaches its peak with the semifinals on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Al-Gharafa Hall. In the first match (6:00 p.m.), the winner of Al-Ahli vs. Al-Wakrah will face the winner of Al-Arabi vs. Qatar/Al-Khor. In the second match (8:00 p.m.), the victor of Al-Sadd vs. Al-Shamal will meet the winner of Al-Gharafa vs. Al-Rayyan. Both encounters are expected to be highly competitive, given the balanced technical levels and the teams’ determination to reach the final. The tournament concludes on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with the grand final at 6:30 p.m., where the two semifinal winners will battle for the championship title of the new edition. |
