China opened their U16 Asia Championship title defence with victory. They held off India in Group A encounter. Zhou Qi (215-C-96) stepped up with 15 points to lead the effort. China went on an 8:0 run late in the opening frame to take a 16:6 lead. The defending champions limited their opponents to just 4 points in the second quarter to take a 31:10 advantage. India scored three points in the third term to face a massive 13:46 deficit before the fourth stanza. China never slowed down and rolled to a confident win at the end. Xiaopeng Guo finished with 14 points for the winners. Loveneet Ludhiana answered with 9 points for India. Bhaupur Haryana netted 6 points in the loss.

A clinic on basketball rules with special emphasis on the new FIBA 3-on-3 game will be held at Silver Hills HSS here on April 5, 2013.
Dr. Philip Wadakekalam, former international referee and chairman of the Kerala Basketball Associations referees commission, will be in charge of the clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Keralas first 3-on-3 State youth and junior basketball championship will be held in Kozhikode on April 6 and 7. [read more]

ONGC rode on another workmanlike performance from Indian national captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (26 points) to win 75-65 and take one step closer to the Rs 1 lakh on offer for the winner of Sunday's final. Meanwhile, Rikin impressed with 23 points to steer his side to the title clash as IOB prevailed 86-60.
Maharashtra women again relied on Manisha Dange, Shireen and Renu Mourya as they set up a meeting with Tamil Nadu. The trio scored a total of 47 points as Maharashtra pipped South Eastern Railway (Bilaspur) 71-70. Tamil Nadu had an easier outing, getting past Kerala 75-55.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Basketball Association felicitated as many as 42 former and current state cagers and coaches in a small ceremony at the stadium. Among those feted and presented a memento were K Rajagopal, who represented India between 1969 and 1970 and G Dilip, the only Karnataka player to have represented India in the Olympics (Moscow 1980).
Later, Indian national head coach Scott Flemming said he would hold a coaching clinic for kids on Sunday. KSBBA then announced it would hold an open three-point shooting competition with winners set to claim Rs 10,000.

Punjab were unable to trigger the intrigue in the third term. Uttarakhand team rallied to a comfortable 58:41 lead at the final intermission. Punjab struggled to get any closer in the fourth frame as Uttarakhand cruised to the victory. Krishnan Murli and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (193-G-91) posted 15 points each in the win. Singh Satnam answered with 19 points and 13 boards for Punjab. Ranbir Singh and Talwinder finished with 13 points each in the loss.
