THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Basketball Buddies programme, a grassroot initiative of the Kerala Basketball Association (KBA), will kick off in June. The programme is aimed at introducing the game of basketball in schools to initiate students into the sport.

The KBA hopes to enroll at least 50 schools which don't have any basketball culture, and initiate 5000 students between eight and 12 years of age into the game.

The KBA, in collaboration with Five Sports Management, will equip these schools to form basketball teams and will help them compete in inter-school events within one year.

There will also be year-end competitions to motivate students and technology-aided grading assessments to monitor their progress. The comprehensive training curriculum was formulated by former international C.V. Sunny.
