The Senior National Basketball Championships 2023 is scheduled to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab from December 3 to 10, 2023. This event will be held in Ludhiana, where 32 State teams from across the country will compete for the National title
Punjab men's team will enter the tournament as the defending champions, having won the title in the last edition by defeating Tamil Nadu in a thrilling final. The team will also be high on confidence after clinching the gold medal at the recently concluded 37th National Gamesheld in Goa from October 23 to 28, 2023. The team secured their victory by defeating Tamil Nadu in the final with a score of 105-103.
The BFI, which was formed in 1950, organises the Senior National Basketball Championship every year, which is one of the oldest and prestigious basketball tournament in the country. The first Indian National Championship for men was held in 1934 in New Delhi, while the women's championship started in 1950.
Indian Railways women's team will be the defending champions in the women's section, having won the title last year by beating Telangana 131-82. The team will face tough competition from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi who have a rich history of producing talented basketball players.
This is the first National Championship after the new BFI regime has taken over after a legal battle with Aadhav Arjun as the new President and also with expectations high in Basketball circles in India.
