MULLANKOLLY: It was mixed luck for Kannur on the opening day of the State junior basketball championship at the St. Mary's HSS floodlit court, Mullankolly, Wayanad, on Tuesday.

Kannur boys made short work of Kasaragod 48-25 but its girls side went down fighting to Palakkad 29-30.

The results (league): Boys: Kozhikode 72 (Saffin Santosh 18, Mohammed Sinnan 10) bt Palakkad 44 (Aswin Krishna 15); Kannur 48 (T. Asray 19) bt Kasaragod 25 (Yadav Krishna 11). Girls: Kollam 51 (Brisa Binu 13, S. Athira 10) bt Wayanad 19; Palakkad 30 (Samrani Anil 18) bt Kannur 29 (K.K. Gopika 12).
