Haryan Men & Tamil Nadu Women lift U23 title

Haryana men and Tamil Nadu women won the 1st U 23 National Basketball Championship trophies here at Sarusajai Indoor Stadium here at Guwahati on Monday.

Haryana got a 94-73 victory over Punjab and Tamil Nadu beat Karnataka 76-58.

In the women’s final, Tamil Nadu, trailing by one point in the first half (29-28), came back strongly in the third quarter through Harima Sundari, who scored 22 points and 16 rebounds to put Tamil Nadu ahead (54-42 ). Nitika A was the top scorer for Tamil Nadu with 27 points for Karnataka. Sanjana NK and Sathya K scored 16 points each.

Haryana, the champions on Monday, led 47-28 at the interval led by captain B Sahil, who contributed 29 points along with his teammate Rajan, who scored 26 points for a sweet victory in the final game,

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave away the cash awards and mementoes at a function attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister of Assam Mandita Garlosa, Secretary General of Basketball Federation of India Kulvinder Singh and Treasurer Chngala Naidu.
