Karnataka women'’s dominant run came to a heart breaking end as the defending champions lost 49-76 to Maharashtra in the final of the 40th Youth National Basketball Championship at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium in Puducherry on Wednesday.
RevaKulkarni (26), Viahnavi Pardechi (25) and Siya Bhonsle (19) produced impressive performances for Maharashtra, the victors zooming off the blocks and never surrendering their lead in a lop-sided title clash. In the men’s final, Tamil Nadu staged a solid comeback in the third and fourth quarters to defeat Rajasthan 96-85. Meanwhile, Karnataka Olympic Association president and secretary of the Karnataka State Basketball Association K Govindaraj announced a cash award of Rs 5lakh for the girls’ silver-medal winning effort.
