WAYANAD: Thrissur boys and girls won titles in the 49th Kerala State junior basketball championships on Sunday.

Thrissur boys, with a dominant show in the third and fourth quarters, drubbed Kottayam 85-59. Kottayam matched its rival. in the first two quarters and scores were level (33-33) at half-time. However, Thrissur wrested control through Vinay Sankar and Niyukth Salil and took a 16-point lead at the end of the third quarter. Thrissur consolidated its lead in the fourth quarter to win by a big margin.

In the girls' final, Thrissur trounced

Thiruvananthapuram 88-48. Liya Maria (30) and Niranjana Jiju (21) did the bulk of the scoring for the winner.

The results: Boys (final):

Thrissur 85 (Vinay Sankar 25, Niyukth Salil 21) bt Kottayam 59 (Jins K. Joby 19, Milen Jose Mathew 15).

Loser's final:

Idukki 74 (Naijal jacob 29, Albert Reji 15, Albi Bitta 11) bt Thiruvananthapuram 62 (Rihan Rayees 27, Amal Azam 12, Aishbal 11).

Girls (finals):

Thrissur 88 (Liya Maria 30, Niranjana Jiju 21, Adhina Maria Johnson 13, E.V. Soorya Gayathri 11) bt Thiruvananthapuram 48 (V. Sivananda 14, Diya S. Bin 10). Loser's final: Kozhikode 73 (Diya Biju 28, K. Arthika 11) bt

Kottayam 53 (Niveditha Raj 21, Amala Anna Johnny 10).

MVP award: Niyukth Salil & Niranjana Jiju.
