Following the announcement earlier this month of Basketball Federation of India (BFI) inviting existing school, college and private sports centres to establish “10 National Basketball Academies across India”, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has signed up as BFI’s first partner in this regard.

An MOU was signed between BFI and MAHE on February 9, with MAHE officials as well as BFI President Aadhav Arjuna and Treasurer Mr T Chengalraya Naidu, in Manipal.

Manipal is a well known educational hub in Udupi District of Coastal Karnataka, that features multiple schools and colleges spanning engineering, medicine, management and mass communication streams - to name just a few.

MOU Signed

It is reliably learnt that as per the MOU, MAHE will provide infrastructure, institutional support, examine each scouted player and give a detail report on their strength and weakness in terms of mental health, muscle strength, areas they need to work and the best practices.

Meanwhile, BFI will be responsible for scouting school students from the age of 11 to join the academy, provide standardised coaching curriculum, supply foreign and Indian coaches, organize coaches clinics and certifications for upskilling and ongoing development, as well as diet and nutrition best practices.
