Moutahed - Duhok 97:87

Moutahed celebrated the first win in the WABA League Group B. They shot down Duhok to improve at 1-1 record. Austin Johnson (191-G-87, college: Oklahoma) poured in 37 points to lead the winners. Duhok suffered the second loss in a row at the tournament.
Moutahed pulled ahead late in the opening quarter. The Lebanese team gained a 24:19 lead after ten minutes. But Duhok opened the second frame on a 15:2 run to surge ahead. The Iraqis hung on to establish a 45:44 halftime lead. Moutahed however quickly restored their advantage after the main break. The Lebanese side grabbed the initiative and recorded a 76:69 lead at the final intermission. Duhok got within a striking distance midway through the final term but Moutahed relied on Austin Johnson who led them to the victory. Bassel Bawji (203-F/C-89, agency: Pro Management Agency, college: Tulsa) provided 30 points and 13 boards, while Marwan Ziadeh (202-C-87) had 8 points for the winners. Chamberlain Oguchi (198-G-86, college: Illinois St.) answered with 29 points for Duhok. Malcolm Battles (205-F/C-79, college: N.Mexico) finished with 26 points in defeat.

Nift Al-Janoub (Superleague) agreed terms with 33-year old Bahamas international forward Torrington Cox (201-95kg-85, college: King). He played recently at Pirates in Bahamas NPBA. In 2008 (a year after he left the college) Cox was drafted by Utah Flash (D-League) in seventh round (105th overall). The former King University (NCAA Div.II) standoutis in his eleventh (!!!) season in pro basketball. Mahmoud Abdeen is a newcomer at Al Kahraba - 2 days ago
Al Kahraba Electricity (Superleague) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old Jordanian international point guard Mahmoud Abdeen (191-88kg-87). He played recently at SM Beermen in Filipino PBA league, but left. In three games he recorded 3.7ppg, 1.7rpg and 2.3apg in 2016 season. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Abdeen won Jordanian League championship title in 2014.
