Champville managed to eke out a tough victory over pesky Duhok at the start of WABA League campaign in Group B. The Lebanese team escaped with a 7-point win behind 30 points and 9 rebounds from Samuel Hoskin (206-F/C-79, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: De Paul).
Both teams entered the game aggressively. They exchanged baskets as Champville snatched a 25:22 lead after ten minutes. Fadi Khatib (199-F-79, agency: Pro Management Agency) went on court in the second term helping Champville clear off to a 14-point halftime lead 50:36. But Duhok struck back in the third quarter. The Iraqi team narrowed the gap and eventually tied things up at 71. Champville however regained control in the final term. They spurred back in front and hung on to win the battle. Garnett Thompson (207-F/C-80, college: Providence) finished with 25 points, 13 boards and 4 assists for Champville. Fadi Khatib had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Malcolm Battles (205-F/C-79, college: N.Mexico) answered with 22 points and 16 boards. Chamberlain Oguchi (198-G-86, college: Illinois St.) had 21 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Al Mina (Superleague) added to their roster 30-year old American guard LaPhonso Ellis Jr. (191-93kg-87, college: Greenville). He played most recently at Shanghai China CBO Chang Cheng Kaui Dai where he averaged impressive: 32.6ppg, 9.7ast, 9.5 rebs, 55%2pt, 48.4% 3pt, 4.5stls, 1.8blk. Al Shurtah Police (Superleague) agreed terms with 26-year old American guard Kenny Brown (188-91, college: Ferris State). He played last summer at Halcones in Panamanian LPB league. In 12 games he had 10.5ppg, 1.8rpg and 3.8apg. Brown helped them to win the regular season and make it to the semifinals.
