Philippines completed the semifinal picture at the U16 Asia Championship. They overcame pesky Iraq en route to the next stage of the tournament. Michael Javelosa (193-G/F-95) delivered 14 points to pace the winners. Philippines will now take on South Korea. Philippines made a huge step towards the victory in the opening frame. They unloaded 30 points to ensure a 30:9 lead after ten minutes. But Iraqis gradually came back to life. They narrowed the deficit and got within 17 points at the interval 34:51. Iraq got within 10 points at the third stanza. The margin grew thinner in the fourth frame as Iraq got within 8. But Philippines stayed calm late in the encounter and pulled away with a tough win at the end. Tomas Ramos (183-G-95) provided 13 points, while Renzar Asilum (173-PG-95) and Kyles Lao (183-G-95) added 10 points each in the victory. Ahmed Razzaq (185-G-97) answered with 20 points for Iraq. Karrar Hamzah (187-G/F-95) had 19 points in the loss.

Caciques de Humacao (BSN) landed 32-year old American forward Ricardo Marsh (207-105kg-81, college: ODU). He was tested at Duhok in Iraqi D1 league. Marsh also played at Hacettepe (TBL) in Turkish league that season. In 12 games he averaged impressive 18.2ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.5apg and 1.3spg this season. This summer he was tested by Gaiteros (LPB) in Venezuelan league.

He has played also professionally in Croatia (Cedevita), Israel (Ironi Ashkelon), Japan (Toyota Alvark), Kosovo, Latvia (ASK Riga), Ukraine (BC Donetsk), Serbia (Crvena Zvezda), NBA (Atlanta Hawks) and Turkey (Turk Telekom and Antalya). Marsh attended Old Dominion University until 2003 and it will be his tenth season in pro basketball. His game is described as:
Extremely consistent performer who has demonstrated the ability to improve every season; can play up to three positions, as he is comfortable on the wing as well as in the post; attended the prestigious Pete Newell player development camp; excellent scorer on the post, in the paint, and up to three-point range; great rebounder who knows how to position his body; compliments his skills with a high level of intelligence that allows him to understand the game better than most players his age; very mature and coachable player.

Al Karkh and Duhok try hard at 14th WABA Champions Cup. Both teams from Iraq compete against 5 other teams in Asia.
In Day 1 Duhok celebrated a 70:61 win against Al-Jaish from Syria. The latter took 22-12 lead after the first period, but the hosts managed to take control of the game with 20-13 surge in the third quarter and then an 18-15 rally in the third frame. Petrochimi overcame Al Karkh from Iraq 77:70.

On May 14th Al Karkh edged Al-Jaish from Syria 84:63 and then Foolad Mahan beat Duhok 95:89. Today Champville rolled over Al Karkh from Iraq 102:76.
