B3 League Round 22: Aisin AW clinch top position despite loss to Kanazawa - Jun 7, 2021

There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Top ranked Aisin AW (31-7) recorded its seventh loss in Aichi on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by tenth ranked Kanazawa (10-30) 101-93. Kanazawa made 35-of-44 free shots (79.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Aisin AW turnovers. 28 personal fouls committed by Aisin AW helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) fired a double-double by scoring 51 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds for the winners. point guard Daichi Tomioka (165-95) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Fujita Shunsuke (187-93) produced 25 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kanazawa maintains tenth position with 10-30 record. Aisin AW at the other side still keeps top place with seven games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Okayama. Second ranked Okayama faced 4th ranked Shizuoka. Host Okayama (30-10) defeated guests from Shizuoka (28-12) 88-81. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Jeffrey Parmer (203-85, college: FAU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Makoto Higuchi contributed with 18 points and 7 assists for the winners. Beninese power forward Muusa Dama (207-96, college: EIU, agency: Blacktop Management) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds for Shizuoka. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Okayama maintains second position with 30-10 record behind leader Aisin AW. Shizuoka at the other side keeps the fourth place with 12 games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Okayama. Second ranked Okayama faced 4th ranked Shizuoka. Host Okayama (30-10) smashed guests from Shizuoka (28-12) 96-76. Jeffrey Parmer scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Muusa Dama responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Okayama maintains second position with 30-10 record behind leader Aisin AW. Loser Shizuoka keeps the fourth place with 12 games lost.
Leader Aisin AW delivered the 31th victory. This time they beat 10th ranked Kanazawa (10-30) 103-86 in Aichi. Kyle Richardson notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Aisin AW maintains first position with 31-7 record. Kanazawa at the other side keeps the tenth place with 30 games lost.
The game in Aichi was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Iwate (26-14) played at the court of 6th ranked Toyoda Gosei (21-19). Iwate managed to secure a 7-point victory 94-87 on Saturday. Chris Olivier fired 39 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Iwate's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Iwate have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 26-14 record. Loser Toyoda Gosei keeps the sixth place with 19 games lost.

Rest of the games of round 22 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Tokyo HT was defeated by Gifu in a road game 78-70. Kagoshima beat Saitama at home 81-69. Iwate lost to Toyoda Gosei on the opponent's court 79-86. Kagoshima outscored Saitama in a home game 83-62. Tokyo HT managed to beat Gifu on the road 82-76.
The best stats of 22th round was 22 points and 5 rebounds by Worth Smith of Gifu.



Gifu - Tokyo HT 78-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Tokyo HT's (13-23) road loss to seventh ranked Gifu (13-27) 70-78 on Saturday. Strangely Tokyo HT outrebounded Gifu 45-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gifu made 7 blocks. Forward Mamadou Gueye (201-93, college: Alberta) fired 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward Worth Smith (198-93, college: Navy) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four Gifu players scored in double figures. American center Joe Wolfinger (214-85, college: Citadel) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 19 rebounds and Kensei Jikuri (187-92) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Tokyo HT's coach Marko Filipovic rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Gifu went down to eighth position due to points difference. Tokyo HT lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 23 games lost.

Canadian forward Erik Nissen (206-95, college: Acadia) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Four Iwate players scored in double figures. Iwate's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American center CJ Gettys (213-94, college: Rutgers, agency: Haylett Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and point guard Ren Takemura (170-95) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Kagoshima dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama's 32. They outrebounded Saitama 45-27 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kagoshima looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Saitama's players. American forward Desmond Hubert (207-92, college: UNC) fired 23 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) for the winners. Senegalese center Diop Cheikh (210-97) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kagoshima's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest.
