Regular Season Round 6: Saitama - Okayama 55-108
Date: February 21, 2021
Bottom-ranked Saitama (0-9) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to third ranked Okayama (8-4) 108-55. Okayama shot 64.3 percent from the field and made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game, while Saitama only scored five points from the stripe. Okayama forced 19 Saitama turnovers and outrebounded them 35-20 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 68.4 percentage. Okayama players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Saitama helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Chris Washburn (203-93, college: TCU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Senegalese power forward Andre Sambou (203-99) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Okayama players scored in double figures. Jo Yoshikawa (178-95) replied with 13 points and 4 assists and forward Keita Shinkawa (183-95) added 14 points in the effort for Saitama. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Okayama have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 8-4 record having just two points less than leader Iwate. Saitama at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Okayama's next round opponent will be Tokyo HT (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. Saitama will play against Kanazawa in Ishikawa and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
