Regular Season Round 21: Saitama - Shizuoka 54-88

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Saitama (5-33) was outplayed at home by fourth ranked Shizuoka (28-10) 88-54 on Sunday. Shizuoka dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama's 38 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Shizuoka forced 20 Saitama turnovers. Saitama was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Beninese power forward Muusa Dama (207-96, college: EIU, agency: Blacktop Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and naturalized American Luke Evans (203-91, college: CBU) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Shizuoka players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Nakano Nakano (182-94) with 14 points and American center Will Creekmore (205-89, college: Missouri St.) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Shizuoka. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Tokyo EX and Okayama. Saitama lost their third game in a row. They stay dead last with 33 lost games. Shizuoka will face league's second-placed Okayama on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saitama will play against Kagoshima (#9) in Renova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
