Regular Season Round 8: Kanazawa - Iwate 75-103
Date: March 6, 2021
The game in Ishikawa supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Iwate (12-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Kanazawa (5-9). Iwate smashed Kanazawa 103-75 on Saturday. They outrebounded Kanazawa 51-28 including a 41-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Iwate looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Kanazawa's players. The winners were led by Canadian forward Erik Nissen (206-95, college: Acadia) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and point guard Ito Ryota (177-92) supported him with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. Even 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by point guard Daichi Tomioka (165-95) did not help to save the game for Kanazawa. American guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) added 20 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Iwate maintains second position with 12-4 record having just two point less than leader Toyoda Gosei, which they share with Okayama. Loser Kanazawa keeps the eighth place with nine games lost. Iwate will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kanazawa will play against Tokyo HT (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
