B3 League Round 9 (Regular Season): Leader Tokyo loses to Shinagawa

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in B3 League, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Top ranked Hachioji Trains (8-2) recorded its second loss in Tokyo on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifteenth ranked Shinagawa (1-9) 96-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hachioji Trains. Shinagawa shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 58.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Victor Hart (203-2001, college: Southern Miss) who scored 29 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The former international point guard Ryo Tawatari (180-1993, college: Dominican, CA) chipped in 17 points and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Dutch-New Zealand Jonathan Janssen (205-1995, college: HPU) who recorded 24 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shinagawa maintains fifteenth place with 1-9 record. Tokyo at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another exciting game was between sixth ranked Okayama and 5th ranked Dice where Okayama (7-2) beat Dice (6-3) on the road 100-87. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Dice. It was a good game for American guard Kameron Hankerson (196-1998, college: Green Bay, agency: 011 Sports) who led his team to a victory with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Terrance King contributed with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Try Hoop's coach Keisuke Nomura allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman LJ Peak (196-1996, college: Georgetown) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds for Dice. Okayama moved-up to third place. Tachikawa at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Saitama. Okayama will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tachikawa will play at home against Okayama (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game where Shanan Utd (#8) beat host Niigata A. (#7) 74-68 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Albirex. Jacob Polakovich stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The best for the losing side was Eugene Phelps with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Shanan Utd (5-4) moved-up to seventh place. Loser Albirex dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Shanan Utd will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata A. will play against Shanan Utd (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 9 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
bottom-ranked Shinagawa was crushed by Tokyo in a road game 87-62. Kanazawa was beaten by Tokyo Z at home 70-79. Tokyo Z lost to Kanazawa on the opponent's court 60-75. Gifu managed to outperform Saitama in a home game 80-73. Yamaguchi recorded a loss to Veertien Mie on the road 87-75.
The best stats of 9th round was 19 points and 11 rebounds by Damonte Dodd of Veertien Mie.



Tokyo HT - Shinagawa 87-62

There was no surprise in Tokyo where 15th ranked Shinagawa (1-9) was crushed by first ranked Hachioji Trains (8-2) 87-62 on Friday. Tokyo looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Shinagawa's players. Dutch-New Zealand Jonathan Janssen (205-1995, college: HPU) stepped up and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American swingman Donovan Clay (203-2001, college: Missouri St.) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Lithuanian Grantas Vasiliauskas (204-1999) with 14 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Victor Hart (203-2001, college: Southern Miss) scored 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo maintains first place with 8-2 record. Shinagawa lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There was a surprise result in Ishikawa where fourteenth ranked Earthfriends (1-7) defeated higher ranked Samuraiz (4-6) 79-70 on Friday. American power forward Jeremy Combs (201-1995, college: Texas Southern) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Jordan Bruner (208-1997, college: Alabama, agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward KJ Allen (198-2000, college: Portland St.) with 11 points and 5 rebounds and Dutch forward Jediael Cordilia (206-2002, college: Mt.St.Mary's) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Kanazawa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Earthfriends maintains fourteenth place with 1-7 record. Loser Samuraiz keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Try Hoop players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Dice's players. The best for the losing side was American Devin Oliver (203-1992, college: Dayton) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Trent Buttrick (206-1998, college: UMass) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gifu moved-up to eighth place. Loser Broncos dropped to the fifth position with three games lost.
