TBL Round 6: Wave is upset by Eagles

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in between third ranked Wave (5-2) and seventh ranked Eagles (3-4) on Sunday night. Wave was defeated by Eagles in a tough game at home 84-88. Strangely Wave outrebounded Eagles 57-41 including a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Filipino guard Patrick Cabahug (186) who scored 45 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Filipino guard Christian Calaguio (185-1975) chipped in 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was British center Morakinyo Williams (209-1988, college: Citadel) who recorded a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds. Eagles have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Eagles maintains seventh position with 3-4 record, which they share with Thunders. Wave at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with SWU. Eagles is looking forward to face Mammoth (#9) in the next round. Wave will play against Kings (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Tigers delivered the sixth victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Thunders (3-4) 78-74 in Bangkok. It was a good game for Nattapat Biasumrit who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks. Tanner Hazelbaker contributed with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Polish Robert Kowalczyk (202-1995) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds for Thunders. Thunders' coach P. Prasarnkaew rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tigers (6-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Thunders at the other side dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Eagles. Tigers will play against T-REX (#6) in Nakhon Ratchasima in the next round where they are favorite. Thunders will play against Pythons and hope to get back on the winning track.

Toby Sathitsumpan had a double-double by scoring 49 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Marlon Monte with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with T-REX and Pythons. Newly promoted Kings still closes the standings with seven games lost. Devil Rays will meet at home higher ranked SWU (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Kings will play against the league's second-placed Wave (#2) and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 6 Mammoth were crushed by SWU in a road game 91-72. Pythons smashed T-REX at home 91-68.




SWU - Mammoth 91-72

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Mammoth (1-6) was crushed on the road by third ranked SWU (5-2) 91-72 on Sunday. SWU dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Mammoth's 26. SWU forced 29 Mammoth turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. Ukrainian-Bulgarian guard Vladislav Ungurian (190-1995, agency: Dreamer Sports Agency) had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Ukrainian swingman Sergii Pryimak (204-1996, agency: BIG) chipped in 17 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four SWU players scored in double figures. SWU's coach T. Dar Juan used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Cholasit Kitbumroong (-2000) with 23 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Alex Smith (201-1988, college: BCU) scored 8 points and 15 rebounds. SWU moved-up to second place, which they share with Wave. Mammoth lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with six games lost. SWU will meet Devil Rays (#5) in the next round. Mammoth will play against Eagles (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Pythons - T-REX 91-68

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Pythons (4-3) smashed at home 6th ranked T-REX (4-3) 91-68 on Sunday. They outrebounded T-REX 46-33 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pythons looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Brian Garrett (193, college: CS Monterey) scored 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Sarion McGee (203, college: John A.Logan) chipped in 17 points and 18 rebounds during the contest (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Garrett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Pythons players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Tevis Robinson (198-1995, college: JWU, FL) with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Avery Scharer (185-1986, college: Shoreline CC) scored 16 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Pythons maintains fourth position with 4-3 record, which they share with T-REX and Devil Rays. Pythons will meet Thunders (#8) in the next round. T-REX will play against the league's leader Tigers (#1) and hope to secure a win.

Bottom-ranked Kings (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 135-79 loss to fifth ranked Devil Rays (4-3) in on Sunday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Kings' 46. Devil Rays forced 26 Kings turnovers and outrebounded them 68-48 including a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Kings' players. The former international Toby Sathitsumpan (182-2001) had a double-double by scoring 49 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Tew Fra chipped in 24 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Leader Tigers delivered the sixth victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Thunders (3-4) 78-74 in Bangkok. Tigers players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for Nattapat Biasumrit who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks. American point guard Tanner Hazelbaker (184, college: WBU) contributed with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Polish Robert Kowalczyk (202-1995) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds and American guard Aaron Williams (198-1991, college: Chicago St.) added 24 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Thunders. Thunders' coach P. Prasarnkaew rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tigers (6-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Thunders at the other side dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Eagles.
