TBL Round 6: Eagles hand first loss to undefeated Wave

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Wave (4-1) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by ninth ranked Eagles (1-4) 88-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Wave. Strangely Wave outrebounded Eagles 57-41 including a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Filipino guard Patrick Cabahug (186) who led his team to a victory with 45 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Filipino guard Christian Calaguio (185-1975) contributed with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. British center Morakinyo Williams (209-1988, college: Citadel) replied with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds for Wave. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Eagles left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Mammoth. Wave at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the second position with one game lost. Eagles is looking forward to face Mammoth (#9) in the next round. Wave will play against Kings (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Kings is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to third ranked Devil Rays (3-2) 135-79. The former international Toby Sathitsumpan (182-2001) had a double-double by scoring 49 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Tew Fra chipped in 24 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Marlon Monte with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains third position with 3-2 record having just two points less than leader Tigers, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Kings still closes the standings with five games lost. Devil Rays will play against SWU (#5) in the next round. Kings will play against the league's second-placed Wave (#2) and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 6 Mammoth were smashed by SWU on the road 91-72. Pythons destroyed T-REX on its own court 91-68.



SWU - Mammoth 91-72

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked SWU (3-2) crushed at home 7th ranked Mammoth (1-4) 91-72. SWU dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Mammoth's 26. SWU forced 29 Mammoth turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. Ukrainian-Bulgarian guard Vladislav Ungurian (190-1995, agency: Dreamer Sports Agency) had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Ukrainian swingman Sergii Pryimak (204-1996, agency: BIG) chipped in 17 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four SWU players scored in double figures. SWU's coach T. Dar Juan allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Cholasit Kitbumroong (-2000) with 23 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Alex Smith (201-1988, college: BCU) scored 8 points and 15 rebounds. SWU moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Mammoth dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Eagles. SWU will play against Devil Rays (#4) in the next round. Mammoth will play against Eagles (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Pythons - T-REX 91-68

There was a minor upset when their close opponent T-REX (3-2) was smashed on the road by sixth ranked Pythons (3-2) 91-68. Pythons outrebounded T-REX 46-33 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American players dominated the game. Guard Brian Garrett (193, college: CS Monterey) scored 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Sarion McGee (203, college: John A.Logan) chipped in 17 points and 18 rebounds during the contest (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Garrett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Pythons players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Tevis Robinson (198-1995, college: JWU, FL) with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Avery Scharer (185-1986, college: Shoreline CC) scored 16 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pythons moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated T-REX. Pythons will play against Thunders (#7) in the next round. T-REX will play against the league's leader Tigers (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
