Australia, Lebanon, New Zealand and Japan reach semifinals in Doha

Australia - Philippines 109-83
Australia outgunned Philippines to advance into the semifinal stage in Doha. Kye Savage (186-G-2005) posted 27 points to lead the winners. Philippines grabbed a 29-24 lead after ten minutes. But Australia picked up the tempo in the second half. They unleashed 62 points after the big break and raced to a comfortable victory. Joshua Dent (188-G-2005) had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Lorenzo Competente (188-G-2005) netted 18 points for Philippines.

South Korea - Lebanon 64-72
Lebanon sealed the semifinal appearance as they upset South Korea today. Lebanon eked out a 39-38 halftime lead. South Korea tied things up at 55 heading into the fourth frame. Lebanon held their opponents to just 9 points in the final period and rallied to the win. Ku Mingyo (197-C-2005) and Kim Seungwoo (192-F-2005) accounted for 19 points each for South Korea. Karl Zamatta (202-C-2006) responded with 24 points and 21 rebounds for Lebanon.

Iran - New Zealand 66-72
New Zealand upset Iran en route to the semifinal stage in Doha. New Zealand got off to a strong start. They ensured a 17-12 lead after ten minutes. New Zealand went on a 23-15 run in the second period to open a 40-27 halftime advantage. Iran sank 39 points in the second half but came up short of win at the end. Nicholas Book (203-F-2006) and Dante Matakatea (194-F-2005) finished with 17 points each for New Zealand. Mohammadamin Khosravi (199-C-2005) answered with 26 points for Iran.

Japan - India 91-84
Japan defeated India in the quarterfinal clash. Yuto Kawashima (201-F-2005) recorded 32 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to pace the winners. Japan dominated in the first half. They jumped off to a comfortable 50-35 halftime lead. India narrowed the deficit at 5-point mark at the final mark. But Japan sank 23 points in the fourth frame and rallied to a tough win at the end. Eijiro Ogawa (187-G-2005) had 21 points in the victory. Kushal Singh (195-PF-2005) answered with 31 points and 9 rebounds for India.
