China U16 - South Korea U16 104:69
Chinese U16 selection triumphed at the inaugural Asia Championship. They toppled
South Korean counterparts to take the trophy. China looked dominant throughout
the tournament and deservedly clinch the title.
Xiaochuan Zhai tallied 20 points and 17 boards to pace China in the
championship game.
Guo Ailun was pivotal for China in the opening frame. He delivered 12 points
allowing his team to earn a 28:21 lead at the first break. China soon unleashed
a 12:0 run to open a double-digit lead. China finished the first half up by 10
points 51:41. Korea tried hard after the main intermission but all in vain.
China stayed in charge and entered the fourth quarter ahead by as many as 15
points. The champions closed the encounter with 29 points in the fourth stanza
and coasted to a well deserved win at the end.
Guo Ailun had 19 points for China. Hanchen Luo contributed 18 points in the
winning effort.
Choi Chang-Jin answered with 20 points for Korea. Dong Yeop Lee had 14
points in the loss.

Iran U16 Philippines U16 83:73
Iran climbed on the pedestal at the U16 Asia Championship. They
defeated Philippines in the final game at the tournament to clinch the third
position. Philippines finished in the fourth spot.
Philippines were up by three points ten minutes into the encounter. But Iran
adjusted their offensive game and bounced back in the second frame. They surged
in front to enjoy a 37:31 lead at halftime. Philippines refused to surrender as
the roller-coaster action continued in the third period. Philippines outgunned
their opponents to trail by just 3 points before the final quarter. Led by
Kiefer Isaac Ravena Philippines erased the deficit and tied things up at 70
at the end of regulation. The teams headed into overtime where Iran looked
better. They held their opponents to 3 points and snatched a tough victory.
Soheil Yousefi had 18 points for Iran.
Mirmohammad Mir Fattahi contributed 17 points and 16 rebounds in the win.
Von Rolfe Pessumal responded with 13 points for Philippines. Roldan Sara
finished with 11 points in defeat.

Taiwan U16 - Japan U16 71:66
Taiwan earned the fifth overall position in the U16 Asia Championship
that just finished in Malaysia. Taiwan outscored Japan on the final day of the
tournament.
Yang Hsing-Chih knocked down 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead
Taiwan.
Taiwan led right from the start as they ensured a 17:10 advantage at the first
break. Japan managed just 8 points in the second period and trailed by 19 points
at halftime. But the second half belonged to Japan. They went on a comeback
rally and almost denied the deficit. Taiwan needed some luck to escape with a
narrow win at the end. Kao Po-Yu had 19 points and 11 boards in the win.
Ryo Tawatari responded with 18 points for Japan. Tsukasa Tano notched 13
points, 6 boards and 4 assists in the victory.

Syria wrapped up their U16 Asia Championship campaign with a confident
win over Jordan. The victory allowed Syria to finish in the seventh position.
Aghyad Rahal knocked down 26 points to lead Syria.
Syrian team led from start to finish. They registered a 48:26 lead at halftime.
Syria never loosened the grip in the second half. They dominated every facet of
the game and rolled to a comfortable win at the end.
Muhammad Otabachi netted 14 points for the winners. Yousef Abuwazneh responded
with 18 points for Jordan. Yazan Altaweel had 10 points in defeat.

Kazakhstan U16 - India U16 59:49
Kazakhstan knocked down India on the final day of the U16 Asia Championship. The
victory allowed Kazakh team to occupy the ninth position in the ladder. India
grabbed the tenth place in the final rankings.
The teams were well-matched in the opening frame as Kazakhstan grabbed a narrow
15:14 lead. India quickly denied the deficit and posted a 34:31 lead at
halftime. The third frame was a low scoring affair as the teams teamed up for
just 14 points. Kazakhstan managed to retain the advantage as they entered the
fourth period up by one 40:39. Kazakhstan continued to keep their defence
untraceable and allowed India to score just 10 points in the final period
running away for the win.
Alexandr Zhigulin scored 24 points and grabbed 16 boards for Kazakhstan. Alimbek
Orazov had 15 points and 10 boards in the win. Shyam Sunder answered with 19
points for India. Ajay Pratap Singh contributed 10 points in the loss.

Malaysia U16 - Bahrain U16 83:73
Malaysia grabbed the eleventh position at the U16 Asia Championship. They
defeated Bahrain in the last game of the home tournament. Malaysia got to
energetic start. They outscored their opponents 19:8 in the opening frame.
Malaysia continued to dominate building a 44:18 lead at halftime. The game
seemed to have been practically over but Bahrain managed to trigger the
intrigue. They poured in 34 points in the fourth frame and nearly erased the
deficit before losing the game at the end.
Shee Weng Loh tallied 27 points and 18 rebounds to lead Malaysia. Hui Kee
Tan netted 16 points for the winners. Ali Ahmed Jamal responded with 22 points
for Bahrain. Subah Husain Hanafi had 21 points and 13 boards in defeat.

China U16 - Philippines U16 85:66
China became the first finalist of the U16 Asia Championship. They held
off brave Philippines in the first semifinal clash tonight. China thus
guaranteed their ticket to the 2010 U17 World Championship.
Philippines threw all they had to challenge undefeated China in this one.
Philippines managed to get to the fast start as they grabbed a 19:15 lead after
ten minutes. China reacted stiffing their defence in the second period. They
limited Philippines to 13 points and earned a 36:32 lead at halftime. The teams
kept it close throughout the third frame however China arrived at the final
break ahead by 8 points. Philippines ran out of steam in the fourth stanza.
China poured in 30 points in the last ten minutes and celebrated a comfortable
success at the end.
Ju
Mingxin (200-F-93) top-scored with 18 points and 7 boards.
Xiaochuan Zhai had 15 points and 14 boards for the winners.
Jeron Alvin Teng responded with 18 points for Philippines. Kiefer Isaac
Ravena finished with 17 points in the loss.

South Korea U16 Iran U16 82:81
South Korea eked out a heart-breaking late win over Iran in the second semifinal
at the U16 Asia Championship.
Lee Jong-Hyun scored a bucket late in regulation propelling South Korea into
the championship game. Mirmohammad Mir Fattahi had a chance to save the day for
Iran but wasted his attempt. South Korea entered the Final and booked the spot
at the 2010 U17 World Championship at the same time.
South Korea grabbed the lead in the opening quarter. They enjoyed a 24:18 lead
ten minutes into the encounter. Iran slowed down their opponents in the second
frame but could not get closer. Korea earned a 42:35 lead into the main break.
But Iran were not about to surrender. They unloaded 30 points in the third
quarter erasing the deficit and heading into the fourth frame up by 2 points. It
all came down to the final seconds when Jonghyun Lee stepped up with his heroics
to win the battle for South Korea.
Jong-Hyun Lee finished with 19 points and 10 boards to pace Korea. Hyo-Sub Shin
added 14 points in the winning effort.
Amir Sedighi knocked down 30 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Iran.
Mirmohammad Mir Fattahi had 21 points and 12 boards in defeat.

Japan recorded a confident win over Jordan at the U16 Asia
Championship. Japan will now face Taiwan for the fifth overall position. Jordan
will play against Syria for the seventh spot.
Japan stunned their opponents in the opening quarter winning it by 17 points
26:9. Jordan never came back to life in the reminder of the contest lacking
defensive aggressiveness.
Yuto Aratani scored 28 points to pace Japan. Taiki Uehara and Ryo Tawatari
added 18 points each for the winners.
Majdi Al-Ghzawi responded with 19 points for Jordan.

Taiwan overcame Syria in the last but one game at the U16 Asia Championship.
Thus Taiwan set up the clash with Japan for the fifth overall spot at the
tournament.
Chen Ying-Chun knocked down 18 points, grabbed 6 boards and dished out 4
assists to pace Taiwan.
Taiwan built a 12-point lead ten minutes into the game and extended the gap at
19 points at halftime. Things hardly changed after the major break as Taiwan
maintained their pressure and rallied to the victory at the end.
Yang Hsing-Chih contributed 14 points for the winners.

Kuwait U16 National Team recorded victory in their final game at the Asia
Championship. They held off Singapore to wrap up the tournament in the 13th
position. Kuwait took the lead right from the start. They won the opening
quarter by 5 points 13:8. The margin grew at 10 points at the interval.
Singapore managed just nine points in the third frame allowing Kuwait to clear
off beyond reach.
Hussain Shuaib scored 18 points, grabbed 7 boards and issued 4 assists for
Kuwait. Mashari Abu Dhom and Mohammad Aloun added 17 points each for the
winners. Russel Low responded with 14 points and 12 boards for Singapore.

Saudi Arabia U16 - Thailand U16 72:61
Saudi Arabia finally snapped the losing skid posting the initial win at
the U16 Asia Championship. They defeated Thailand to finish the competition at
the 15th spot. Thailand slipped at the very bottom of the ladder taking the 16th
position.
Saudi Arabia opened the game with a 9:0 surge and built a 22:12 lead at the
first break. Thailand refused to fold as they answered with a 15:0 run in the
second quarter to level things up 34:34 at halftime. Saudi Arabia stepped back
in charge in the third quarter and eked out a tough win at the end.
Ahmed Almukhtar delivered 22 points and 7 rebounds for Saudi Arabia. Nassir
Abo Jalas added 16 points for the winners.
Loephong Kongtawee had 22 points, 5 boards and 4 assists for Thailand.

Chinese U16 National Team recorded the sixth straight win at the Asia
Championship. They breezed past Japan to claim the top place in Group E of the
tournament. They will now face Philippines in the semifinal.
Japan got to a surprisingly good start to the game. They outscored China in the
first frame to enjoy a 28:27 lead at the first break. But China showed why they
are considered #1 favorite of the championship in the second quarter. They
overwhelmed Japan 35:8 to earn a comfortable 26-point lead at the interval. From
now on China stayed in charge rolling to another confident win in Johor Bahru.

South Korea U16 - Taiwan U16 71:39
South Korea booked the last spot available at the semifinal stage of
the U16 Asia Championship. They held off Taiwan on the final day of the
Qualifying Round to reach the semis.
It was the decisive game for both teams but Korea seemed to have readied
themselves better. They grabbed the initiative right from the start and slipped
past Taiwan to a 31:18 lead at halftime. Taiwan could not change the complexion
of the encounter in the second half. They accounted for just 9 points in the
third stanza to trail by as many as 28 points entering the fourth frame. South
Korea marched to the win at the end.
Changjin Choi scored 16 points and pulled down 6 boards to lead Korea.

Philippines paved their way into U16 Asia Championship semifinals. They held of
Jordan in the decisive clash in Group F to book the ticket. The first half made
it possible for Philippines. They outscored Jordan 17:8 in the opening stanza
and maintained the gap in the second frame. Building a 31:18 lead at halftime
Philippines managed to keep Jordan at safe distance throughout the rest of the
game recording a vital success.
Keifer Isaac Ravena scored 13 points to lead balanced effort. Von Rolfe Pessumal
and Roldan Sara had 10 points each in the win. Majdi Al-Ghzawi responded with 18
points for Jordan.

Iran recorded the sixth straight win at the U16 Asia Championship. They
prevailed against Syria to claim the top spot in Group F of the Qualifying Round
of the tournament. Syria remained at the bottom of the ladder at 0-3 record.
The teams looked evenly matched in the first half. Iran secured a narrow 31:30
lead at halftime. The third quarter brought little changes into the game as Iran
remained ahead by a single point 43:42. But they managed 26 points in the fourth
term and rallied away for good in this one.
Soheil Yousefi notched 23 points, 6 boards and 4 assists for Iran. Amir
Sedighi contributed 18 points for the winners. Aghyad Rahal came up with 19
points for Syria.

India clinched the top position in Group G of the Qualifying Round at U16 Asia
Championship. They held off Bahrain in the final game in the pool to claim the
spot. India will now fight against Kazakhstan for the 9th overall place. Bahrain
will wrap up their campaign against hosting Malaysia.
Bahrain led by one point 10:9 at the first break. But India gradually took over.
They surged ahead in the second frame and posted a 5-point lead at the interval.
India kept on pushing and ensured a 14-point lead before the fourth quarter.
Bahrain could not recover and had to surrender at the end.
Shyam Sunder nailed 19 points for India. Sukhjeet added 13 points in the
win. Subah Husain Hanafi finished with 16 points and 11 boards for Bahrain.

Singapore finished their campaign in Group G of the U16 Asia Championship with a
confident win. They rallied past Thailand to clinch the third spot in the pool.
Singapore will now face Kuwait for the 13th overall spot in the tournament.
Thailand will take on Saudi Arabia on the final day of the competition.
Singapore gave no chance for their opponents in this one. They exploded with 56
points in the first half avalanching to a 33-point halftime advantage. Singapore
loosened the grip in the third frame a bit but finished off their counterparts
in the final stanza. Jabez Su scored 27 points for Singapore. Delvin Goh added
17 points for the winners. Sarun Buranachan replied with 18 points for Thailand.

Kazakhstan U16 - Saudi Arabia U16 64:38
Kazakh U16 selection recorded a comfortable win over Saudi Arabia at the U16
Asia Championship in Malaysia. The victory propelled Kazakhstan to the top spot
in Group H. They will now face India for the 9th overall spot at the tournament.
Saudi Arabia will look for their first win in Johor Bahru when they take on
Thailand on Friday.
Saudi Arabia struggled offensively in this one. They managed just 17 points in
the first half trailing by as many as 13 points at halftime. Kazakhstan did not
allow their opponents to threaten the margin seriously in the second half and
drove to the victory at the end.
Vyacheslav Raguyev notched 15 points for the winners. Roman Morozov had 11
points for Kazakhstan. Ahmed Almukhtar delivered 14 points and 11 boards in the
loss.

Malaysia prevailed against Kuwait at the U16 Asia Championship. The victory
ensured the second-place finish for the hosts in Group H. Malaysia will now play
against Bahrain for the 11th overall position. Kuwait will face Singapore in the
final game at the tournament.
Kuwait got to the better start to the game as they enjoyed a 4-point lead at
halftime. But Malaysia used a 27:9 rally in the third quarter to clear off for
good in this one.
Yen Yee Fong exploded with game-high 30 points to pace Malaysia. Shee Weng
Loh contributed 14 points for the winners. Mashari Abu Dhom answered with 17
points for Kuwait. Hussain Shuaib netted 15 points and made 8 steals for Kuwait.

Chinese U16 team posted the fifth straight win at the Asia Championship in
Malaysia. They overcame South Korea in the second round of action of the
Qualifying Round.
The game turned into another vivid proof of the dominance of China at the
tournament. They scored eagerly and Korea struggled to slow their opponents
down. China earned a 60:32 lead at halftime and continued to the final
comprehensive success in the second half.
Guo Ailun scored 25 points to pace the charge. Ju Mingxin (200-F-93) added
20 points in the winning effort. Hyeongjun Kim responded with 11 points for
South Korea.

Taiwan posted the first win at the U16 Asia Championship Qualifying Round. They
shot down Japan to improve at 1-1 record in Group E. Japan in the meantime

Chen Kuan-Chuan knocked down 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Taiwan. Japan
got to the better start to the game as they were up 25:23 at the first break.
Japan maintained the lead in the second quarter and they piled up a 5-point
advantage at halftime. But Taiwan bounced back after the main break and erased
the deficit. They limited Japanese youngsters to just 7 points in the fourth
quarter and raced to the win at the end.

India led by just one point at halftime 26:25. They shifted the gear in the
third stanza to clear off to a 12-point lead at the final break. Singapore did
not recover and could not avoid the defeat at the end.
Shyam Sunder nailed 15 points to lead the way for India. Ankit Panigrahi
(185-C-93) had 12 points in the victory. Wei Xiang Ng notched 15 points for
Singapore.

Bahrain overcame Thailand in Group G of the U16 Asia Championship in Malaysia.
The victory meant the second straight success for Bahrain at the classification
stage of the competition. Ali Ahmed Jamal knocked down 25 points to pace Bahrain
to the victory.
Bahrain grabbed a 9-point lead ten minutes into the game. They kept Thailand at
bay in the next three quarters and ensured a confident win at the end.
Subah Husain Hanafi had 9 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Torpong
Mattayamanan responded with 18 points for Thailand. Loephong Kongtawee and Sarun
Buranachan netted 11 points each in defeat.

Alimbek Orazov scored 18 points and collected 9 rebounds to lead the Kazakh
team.
Kazakhstan grabbed an 8-point lead at the first break. Malaysia tried to get
back into the game as they cut the distance to 6 points at halftime. However
Kazakhstan pulled together in the second half and breezed to the win at the end.
Roman Morozov nailed 14 points in the winning case. Shee Weng Loh had 22 points
and 7 rebounds for Malaysia.

The teams were well-matched in the first frame. The scoreboard read 12:12 after
ten minutes. But Saudi Arabia scored just 15 points in the next two periods and
entered the fourth frame down by 17 points. Kuwait cruised to the win in the
fourth quarter. Abdulrahman Alshammari had 13 points and 14 boards in the
victory. Ahmed Almukhtar netted 10 points in defeat.

Japan got the last train to the Qualifying Round but could not match the Korean
team. South Korea built a 22-point lead at halftime. Japan stopped the bleeding
in the second half but could not threaten the margin till the final buzzer.
Seungwook Choi delivered 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners.

Chinese U16 selection recorded the fourth straight win at the Asia Championship
in Malaysia. Today they thumped Taiwan at the start of the Qualifying Round in
Group E. Taiwan had little chance to stop the impressive Chinese team. China
fired 60 points in the first half building a 35-point lead at halftime. The
second half turned into simple formalities as China cruised to the victory.
Guo Ailun had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for China. Zhu Xuhang
added 18 points for the winners. Wang Jen-Chieh tallied game-high 25 points for
Taiwan.

Iran U16 - Jordan U16 70:51
Iran made another step towards reaching the semifinal stage at the U16 Asia
Championship in Malaysia. They rolled past Jordan at the start of the Qualifying
Stage of the tournament.
Amir Sedighi scored 20 points and pulled down 15 boards to lead Iran on top
of Group F.
Iran led right from the start. They earned a 20:12 lead ten minutes into the
game. Iran continued to dominate and ensured a 44:21 advantage at halftime.
Jordan slowed down their opponents in the second half but could not avoid the
defeat.
Soheil Yousefi had 17 points, 7 steals and 5 assists for Iran. Malek Kanaan
responded with 20 points for Jordan.

Philippines recorded the first win at the U16 Asia Championship Qualifying
Round. They held off Syria in Group F.
Jeron Alvin Teng knocked down 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the
winners.
The teams were tied at 16 after ten minutes of action. Syria put their noses in
front in the second quarter taking a narrow 30:29 lead at halftime. But
Philippines surged in charge in this seesaw action heading into the fourth
quarter ahead by one 45:44. Philippines scored 26 points in the fourth term and
celebrated a confident win at the end.
Roldan Sara accounted for 14 points in the victory.
Muhammad Otabachi answered with 20 points and 13 boards for Syria. Aghyad
Rahal netted 14 points in the losing case.

Thailand celebrated the first win at the second stage of the U16 Asia
Championship in Malaysia. They shot down India in Group H. Thailand got to the
better start as they grabbed a 16:10 lead after ten minutes. India recovered in
the second frame taking a 34:24 lead at halftime. But Thailand found the way to
recover in the second half. They stepped on the gas in the fourth term and eked
out a difficult win at the end.
Sarun Buranachan scored 18 points to pace Thailand. Udomsak Rattanapansri had 16
points in the winning effort. Ankit Panigrahi responded with 21 points and 10
rebounds in defeat.

Bahrain posted the first win in Group G of the Classification stage at the U16
Asia Championship. Ali Ahmed Jamal fired 30 points to pace Bahrain past
Singapore.
Singapore scored 20 points in the first term and enjoyed a 5-point lead at the
first intermission. But Bahrain shifted the gear in the second quarter and
thrashed their opponents in the next two quarters. Bahrain headed into the
fourth quarter ahead by 9 points and sealed the deal at the end.
Sayed Hasan Ali notched 16 points for Bahrain. Delvin Goh and Larry Liew
answered with 15 points each in defeat.

Kuwait posted the first win at the U16 Asia Championship. They prevailed against
Kazakhstan in Group H of the Classification Round of the tournament. Kuwait
finished the preliminary round winless but managed to adjust the rhythm in the
fourth encounter in Johor Bahru.
Kazakhstan got to the better start. They enjoyed a 22:16 lead after ten minutes
of action. Kuwait stopped the bleeding in the second frame and got within 5 at
halftime. The teams traded baskets in the third quarter and headed into the
fourth stanza with the Kazakh team up by 5 points. However Kuwait came from
behind and raced to the victory at the end.

Malaysia opened their U16 Asia Championship Classification Round campaign with a
tough win over Saudi Arabia.
Shee Weng Loh scored 27 points and pulled down 12 boards to lead the hosts.
Saudi Arabia on the other hand suffered the fourth straight defeat at the
tournament.
The teams looked well-matched in the starting quarter. Malaysia led by just a
single point at the first break 21:20. But the home team limited Saudi Arabia to
only 5 points in the second quarter building a 12-point halftime lead. Malaysia
exploded with 30 points in the third quarter to keep Saudi Arabia at bay. The
Arab team fought bravely in the fourth quarter cutting the deficit but could not
erase the deficit.
Hui Kee Tan finished with 16 points for Malaysia. Nassir Abo Jalas answered with

Championship in Malaysia. The team won action in preliminary Group A and entered
quarterfinal stage. India on the other hand suffered the second defeat and did
not make it to the playoffs. China led from start to finish. They earned a 64:21
lead at halftime and drove to yet another comfortable win at the end.
Zhu Xuhang (207-F-93) and Guo Ailun notched 23 points each for China. Shi
Hongfei added 20 points for the winners.

first break but could not capitalize. Philippines came from behind in the second
quarter and earned a 3-point halftime advantage. The initiative belonged to
Philippines in the second half. They limited their opponents to 17 points after
the main break and rallied to the win at the end.
Cris Michael Tolomia knocked down 27 points to lead the charge. Jeron Alvin

The game of Group C leaders turned into a rather one-way traffic. South Korea
scored eagerly in the starting quarter accounting for massive 49 points and
piling up a 29-point lead. The intrigue was dead for now and Korea coasted to
the win at the end. Hyosub Shin knocked down 22 points to pace Korea. Seungwook
Choi dropped 18 points in the victory.

lead. Kuwait struck back in the second quarter taking a 20:19 lead at halftime.
But Singapore adjusted in the second half and held off Kuwait for the initial
win in Malaysia.

Fattahi added 18 rebounds to his tally. Malaysia in the meantime slipped at 1-2
record and stopped just outside the playoffs.
Iran was dominant right from the start. They outscored Malaysia 23:11 in the
opening quarter. Malaysia struggled to slow down their opponents defensively
conceding 29 points in the second frame. Iran eased to a 31-point halftime

South Korea celebrated a confident win on Day 1 of the U16 Asian Championship in
Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Both teams got into Group C to fight for the quarterfinal
birth. Two best teams at the tournament will be granted the tickets to the
inaugural U17 World Championship to be held in Germany in 2010.
South Korea wasted little time to prove the strength. They fired 34 points in
the first quarter piling up a 24-point lead at the first break. Korea maintained
the lead throughout the second frame as they earned a 32-point cushion into the
second half. Singapore managed miserable four points in the third quarter and
trailed by as many as 57 points before the fourth term. Korea eased to the win
in the final minutes. Hyosub Shin scored 25 points to lead the charge. Jonghyun
Lee added 16 points for the winners. Russel Wenqiang answered with 10 points and
5 boards for Singapore.

Syria started their U16 Asia Championship campaign with a hard-fought win over
Kuwait. The teams clashed in Group C and Syria snatched a last second win.
Kuwait were up by one with twenty seconds remaining. But Mahmmoud Trub converted
a lay-up to win the battle for Syria.
Syria seemed heading for a confident win as they won the starting stanza 11:4.
But Kuwait gradually came back into the contest. They won the next period to
trail by five points at halftime. Syria stepped on the gas in the third frame
and enjoyed an 8-point buffer before the fourth term. Kuwait once again bounced
back erasing the deficit. Nevertheless Mahmmoud Trub dragged Syria to the
victory at the end.
Aghyad Rahal produced 20 points to lead the charge. Ockba Baghajati had 6 points
