Group A
Malaysia - Kuwait 66-81
Kuwait earned the first victory in Group A. They upset Malaysia to earn the second position. Yousef Husain (188-F-00) scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the winners. Kuwait piled up a 46:34 halftime lead. They went on a 17:9 run in the third term to clear off for good. Mohammad Hasan (194-C-00) chipped in 18 points for the winners. Ken Yen Low (179-G-99) responded with 20 points for Malaysia.

Hong Kong - Japan 51-86
Japan finished the preliminary round undefeated. They rallied past Hong Kong to clinch top position in Group A. Yudai Nishida (188-F-99) scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to pace the winners. Seiya Takahara tossed in 15 points in the win. Jaoan led by just 6 points at halftime. But they used a 30:9 run in the fourth frame to seal the win. Yip Yiu Pong (191-PG-99) and Lin Man Ching (175-G-99) scored 14 points each for Hong Kong.

Group B
Indonesia - Taiwan 56-79
Taiwan celebrated the third straight victory in Group B. They stormed past Indonesia to conquer the top place in the ladder. Lin Ting-Chien (190-SG-99) came up with 33 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Taiwan opened a 35:31 halftime lead. They triggered a 23:11 rally in the fourth quarter and iced the victory. Tang Wei-Chieh (190-SF-99) tossed in 11 points for Taiwan. Aldy Rachman (190-C-00) responded with 12 points for Indonesia.

Group C
Thailand - Bahrain 65-58
Thailand held off Bahrain to improve at 2-1 record in Group C. Natthaworn Banchathon (175-F-99) stepped up with 28 points for the Thai youngsters. Thailand recorded a comfortable 21:7 lead ten minutes into the game. They protected the lead well throughout the rest of the encounter cruising to the victory. Jdar Sonsem (192-C-99) finished with 12 points for Thailand. Mohamed Almajed responded with 13 points and 11 rebounds for Bahrain.

Group D
South Korea - China 65-91
China cruised past South Korea to capture the top spot in Group D. Li Xiangbo (203-F-99) paced well-balanced effort with 18 points and 8 rebounds for China. South Korea enjoyed a 23:19 lead ten minutes into the game. However China turned things around in the next two periods. They erupted for 53 points in the second and third period and got away with the victory. Wu Yujia (200-F-99) and Rongzhen Zhu netted 17 points each for the winners. Myeongjin Seo responded with 13 points for South Korea.

Iraq - India 90-69
Iraq advanced into the Second Stage of the tournament following a vital win over India in Group D. Abdullah Abdullah (187-F-00) was unstoppable for the Iraqis tallying 39 points and 6 rebounds. Iraq piled up a 49:36 halftime lead. They boosted the gap at 31-point mark at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the win. Abbas Al-Qarnawi (188-SF-99) netted 16 points for the winners. Baladhaneshwar Poiyamozhi (181-F-99) responded with 26 points for India.
