Group AMalaysia - Hong Kong 69-53Malaysia outgunned Hong Kong to take 1-0 record in Group A. Kok Shen Lim (174-G-99) tossed in 13 points for the winners. Malaysia accounted for a 44:28 halftime lead. They boosted the margin in the third term. They extended the gap at 23-point lead at the final intermission. Hong Kong narrowed the deficit in the fourth frame but could not avoid the defeat. Joon Kang Lee (176-G-99) had 12 points for the winners. Lin Man Ching (175-G-99) responded with 19 points for Hong Kong. Japan - Kuwait 84-49 Japan recorded the first victory at the U16 Asian Championship. They knocked down Kuwait for 1-0 record in Group A. Yudai Nishida (188-F-99) posted 20 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winners. Kuwait jumped to an 18:17 lead ten minutes into the game. But Japan went on a furious 28:9 run in the second period to take an 18-point halftime lead. Japan dropped 39 points in the second half and cruised to the win. Rei Ito (180-G-99) tallied 14 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds for the winners. Masaed Al Qutaibi replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Kuwait. Group BTaiwan - Bangladesh 145-31Taiwan recorded the first victory in Group B. They stormed past Bangladesh to take 1-0 record. Six players scored in double digits for the winners. Tang Wei-Chieh (190-SF-99) scored 27 points, issued 7 assists and grabbed 5 boards for the winners. Taiwan opened a 74:9 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Chen Fan Po-Yen (195-C-00) tossed in 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the winners. M.Rahman responded with 12 points for Bangladesh. Lebanon - Indonesia 83-55 Four players scored in double digits as Lebanon upset hosting Indonesia in Jakarta. Salim Alaaeddine (188-SG-99) tossed in 16 points to pace the winners. Lebanon accounted for a 43:27 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 22-point mark heading into the fourth frame. Lebanon held the hosts to just 11 points in the final period and raced to the win. Karim Zeinoun (188-F-99) tallied 15 points and 14 rebounds for Lebanon. Hriscahyo Agviandi (193-C-99), Komang Wijaya (188-SF-99) and Sean Sada (183-PF-99) had 8 points each in the loss. Group CPhilippines - Bahrain 98-58Philippines opened win count at the U16 Asian Championship. They outgunned Bahrain in Group C opener. Sean Ildefonso (183-F-00) came up with 16 points to lead the winning side. Philippines unleashed 55 points in the first half to gain a 29-point halftime lead. Philippines kept Bahrain at bay throughout the second half and cruised to the win. Juan Gomez De Liano (180-F-99) chipped in 15 points for the winners. Fadhel Abdulhusain (168-PG-99) responded with 21 points for Bahrain. Group DIraq - South Korea 74-92South Korea outgunned Iraq for the opening victory at the tournament. Lee Junghyun and Lee Hyunjung came up with 21 points each for the Korean team. Iraq recorded a 35:32 halftime advantage. But South Korea responded with a massive 29:13 run in the third term to pull ahead. They followed with a 31-point effort in the fourth frame and rallied to the win. Yang Jae Min (192-F-99) had 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Abdullah Abdullah responded with 29 points and 10 rebounds for Iraq. China - India 116-57 China cruised past India in the opening game in Jakarta. Rongqu Huang stepped up with 22 points to pace the winners. China poured in 66 points in the first half to take a 33-point halftime lead. China erupted for 50 points in the second half and marched to the win. Zhu Rongzhen (210-C-99) provided 14 points for the winners. Baladhaneshwar Poiyamozhi responded with 18 points for India. |
