TBL Round 5: Tigers hand first loss to undefeated Wave

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Wave (4-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Tigers (5-0) 108-86. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Wave. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Tigers forced 30 Wave turnovers. Strangely Wave outrebounded Tigers 53-39 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 23 passes made by Wave's players. Guard Takamin Sirijariyaporn (181-1997) orchestrated the victory by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 9 assists. Nattapat Biasumrit contributed with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American center Raymond Miller (204-1988, college: CS Fullerton, agency: Interperformances) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 24 rebounds and 4 assists for Wave. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Tigers have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Newly promoted Wave keeps the second position with one game lost. Tigers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Wave will play against Eagles and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Another interesting game for Thunders (2-3) which played on the court of 7th ranked Mammoth (1-4). Eighth ranked Thunders crushed hosts 96-61. American guard Aaron Williams (198-1991, college: Chicago St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Robert Kowalczyk chipped in 21 points, 23 rebounds and 5 assists. Thunders' coach P. Prasarnkaew felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cholasit Kitbumroong (-2000) responded with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Thunders moved-up to seventh place. Newly promoted Mammoth dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Eagles. Thunders will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mammoth will play against SWU (#5) to get more than just one victory in their record.

In the last two games of round 5 Eagles smashed Kings on the road 79-58. Devil Rays lost to Pythons on its own court 84-93.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 26 points and 26 rebounds by Tew Fra of Devil Rays.



T-REX - SWU 122-121

A very close game took place in Nakhon Ratchasima between T-REX and SWU. Sixth ranked T-REX (3-2) got a very close home victory over 4th placed SWU (3-2). T-REX managed to escape with a 1-point win 122-121 in the fight for the third place. T-REX outrebounded SWU 52-40 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American point guard Avery Scharer (185-1986, college: Shoreline CC) nailed a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 13 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import Tevis Robinson (198-1995, college: JWU, FL) accounted for 29 points and 16 rebounds. Scharer is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Ukrainian swingman Sergii Pryimak (204-1996, agency: BIG) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and Ukrainian-Bulgarian guard Vladislav Ungurian (190-1995, agency: Dreamer Sports Agency) added 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for SWU in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. T-REX moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated SWU. T-REX will meet Pythons (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. SWU will play against Mammoth and hope to secure a win.

Kings - Eagles 58-79

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Eagles and bottom-ranked Kings had identical 0-4 record. But Kings were not able to use a home court advantage and were crushed by the opponent from 79-58 on Saturday night. Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kings' 22. Eagles forced 19 Kings turnovers and outrebounded them 53-41 including 18 on the offensive glass. Patrick Tchuente nailed 26 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Filipino guard Christian Calaguio (185-1975) accounted for 16 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. The former international swingman Peeranat Semmesuk (195-1995) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and Marlon Monte added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for Kings in the defeat. Eagles (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Mammoth. It was Kings' fifth loss in a row. Kings at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with five games lost. Eagles will meet league's second-placed Wave in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kings will play against Devil Rays (#4) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Mammoth - Thunders 61-96

Another interesting game for Thunders (2-3) which played on the court of 7th ranked Mammoth (1-4). Eighth ranked Thunders crushed hosts 96-61. Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Mammoth's 30. They outrebounded Mammoth 55-41 including a 39-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Thunders players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Mammoth's players. American guard Aaron Williams (198-1991, college: Chicago St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Polish Robert Kowalczyk (202-1995) chipped in 21 points, 23 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Thunders players scored in double figures. Thunders' coach P. Prasarnkaew felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cholasit Kitbumroong (-2000) responded with 26 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Alex Smith (201-1988, college: BCU) scored 4 points and 18 rebounds. Thunders moved-up to seventh place. There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Devil Rays (3-2) lost at home to sixth ranked Pythons (3-2) 93-84 on Saturday. Strangely Devil Rays outrebounded Pythons 61-44 including 26 on the offensive glass. American guard Brian Garrett (193, college: CS Monterey) nailed 30 points for the winning side and Singapore point guard Zhong Han Wong (183-1997) accounted for 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Garrett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Pythons players scored in double figures. Tew Fra came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 26 rebounds and the former international Toby Sathitsumpan (182-2001) added 24 points and 6 assists respectively for Devil Rays in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pythons moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Devil Rays. Pythons will meet at home T-REX (#6) in the next round. Devil Rays will play against Kings and hope to secure a win.
