Here is the weekly review of the top performing Lebanese players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international guard
Wael Arakji (194-94, currently plays in Qatar). He led
Al Shamal to a victory over the closely-ranked Al Wakrah (8-3)
71-67 in the Qatari D1 in Saturday night's game.
Arakji was MVP of the game. He scored 30 points (!!!), grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 40 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Al Shamal Doha (8-4) is placed fourth in the D1.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
The Regular Season already ended.
Arakji has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 29.4ppg, 6.7rpg, 5.8apg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 55.7%(93-167), 3FGP: 29.1% and FT: 74.7% in 11 games he played so far.
Arakji is currently a member of the Lebanese senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced international center
Ater Majok (208-87, college:
UConn, currently plays in Qatar). He was the major contributor in an
Al Arabi's victory against the sixth-ranked Al Ahli (3-7)
91-77 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 last Sunday.
Majok recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 4 assists and 8 blocks.
Al Arabi Club Doha (9-1) is placed second in the D1.
It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
This season Majok has very high stats. He averages: 18.3ppg, 14.0rpg, 3.4apg, 4.2bpg, 2FGP: 59.8%(52-87), 3FGP: 52.4%(11-21) and FT: 76.7%.
Majok has a dual citizenship: South Sudanese and Lebanese.
Ex-Homenetmen Beirut player is in the roster of the Lebanese senior national team.
#3. The Lebanese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international point guard
Jad Khalil (186-96, currently plays in Serbia). He contributed to a 3-point
Kolubara's victory against the 12th-ranked Napredak (6-10)
84-81 in the Serbian KLS on Saturday night.
Khalil recorded 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes.
KK Kolubara Lazarevac 2003 (8-7) is placed fifth in the KLS.
It's Khalil's first season with the team.
This year his overall stats are: 6.6ppg, 1.9rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 46.9%, 3FGP: 45.7%(16-35) and FT: 75.0% in 14 games.
Khalil played for the Lebanese national team two years ago.
#4. Guard
Joseph Chartouny (190-94, college:
Marquette, currently plays in France) could not help
Union Rennes (3-4) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance the ninth-placed Union Rennes (3-4) was edged
88-87 on the road by the higher-ranked Etoile Angers (#8) in the Group A.
Chartouny scored 16 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 6 assists. It was his first game for Union Rennes this season.
Chartouny is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and Lebanese.
He is also Lebanese national team player.
