We bring you last week's top performances from Lebaneses who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international guard
Wael Arakji (194-94, currently plays in Qatar). He led
Al Shamal to a victory over the closely-ranked Qatar Club (2-7)
82-78 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 in Wednesday night's game.
Arakji was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 30 points and getting 11 rebounds. Arakji also added 5 assists in 39 minutes on the court.
Al Shamal Doha (6-3) is placed fifth in the D1.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Arakji's first season with the team.
He has individually a very good year with high stats. Arakji averages: 30.0ppg, 6.4rpg, 5.7apg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 55.2%(80-145), 3FGP: 29.5% and FT: 74.7% in nine games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Lebanese senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international point guard
Marvelle Harris (196-93, college:
Fresno St., currently plays in Japan). Harris could not help
Kumamoto Volters (13-13) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the fourth-placed Kumamoto Volters (13-13) were defeated
94-89 on the road by the lower-ranked Koshigaya Alphas (#4) in the West group.
Harris was the top scorer with 22 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 9 assists.
This season Harris has very high stats. He averages: 17.9ppg, 6.5rpg, 4.6apg, 2.5spg, 2FGP: 52.2%, 3FGP: 36.8% and FT: 75.9%.
Harris is a naturalized American.
He played for the Lebanese national team in 2019.
Harris used to play for Louaize Zouk in Lebanese league.
#3. The Lebanese player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international center
Ater Majok (208-87, college:
UConn, currently plays in Qatar). He contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Al Khor (1-8) crushing them
107-54 in the Qatari D1 on Tuesday night.
Majok had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 15 rebounds. He also added 5 assists and 3 blocks in 30 minutes.
Al Arabi Club Doha (8-1) is placed first in the D1.
It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
Majok has very impressive stats this year: 17.9ppg, 14.0rpg, 3.3apg, 3.8bpg, 2FGP: 58.7%(44-75), 3FGP: 55.0%(11-20) and FT: 75.5% in nine games.
He has a dual citizenship: South Sudanese and Lebanese.
Ex-Homenetmen Beirut player is also a member of the Lebanese senior national team.
#4. Power forward
Ali Kanaan (207-85, college:
UMass Lowell, currently plays in Jordan) was not able to help
Kofer Yoba in their game against Al Ahli (9-1) in the Jordanian Premier League.
Kanaan recorded 5 points.
Kofer Yoba was defeated
82-74 in Amman by the leading Al Ahli.
This season Kanaan averages only 1.8ppg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and Lebanese.
Kanaan used to play for the Lebanese national team
back in 2018.
